And while reading it was amazing, I will never, ever forget seeing the play. I sat through it twice, because I could barely pay attention the first time, I was such a mess.

JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

How could I argue with you. Where would I find a copy of said play?

Any bookstore would have it. It's by Larry Kramer.

At your local Barnes and Noble or library.

I have to admit, the play is great, but you don't get the real emotion until you see it performed...or live it - One or the other.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

look on amazon... I think that's where I got mine.

I bought my copy after I saw the play, and I lost count of how many times I've read it. My binding is going to break. People on these boards weren't sure what to do with me when it closed. I stopped sleeping for about three days, and just read it over and over again. I'd fall asleep reading it at four, five in the morning for DAYS after they closed. I still have no idea why.

Like when Les Mis closed....

And tomorrow, for DRS, will be my first time back in the Imperial since Les Mis...

I mourn the "plaque" on the ground in front of the Imperial...

I didn't sleep the night I found out the show was closing...

I was actually lucky. I decided to see it on the spur of the moment, only to find out when I got to the theatre that the cast had just been told this will be thier last performance, as the show was unexpectedly closing.

Justice, yeah, I'd like to not have to live that anymore.

Bs- you'll have a great time at DRS. I first saw Les Mis when I was 12, so I have fond memories of the show, as well.

Yeah, but BSo, you had time to process it. I turned my computer on and found out that that night was going to be the last performance. That shouldn't have happened. Those actors at least deserved the chance to have a proper goodbye with those roles, among many, many other things. I called my best friend, who didn't have a computer, and then just sort of sat on my couch staring at the walls. That wasn't fair, at ALL.

I don't care for Adam's hair (for the movie), either.

It was so profound at the end. When they all stood with their backs turned, looking at the Declaration of Independence...

Yeah, I guess....

But then I had tickets the weekend before it closed and that was when the musicians (and then the actors) went on strike...but they moved the last show back and I got tickets the weekend before it closed...

I wish they didn't close off the last performance...

What was even more devastating to me than the last scene was the scene re: the death of Bruce's partner. I couldn't even begin to comprehend what I'd seen until days after.

That monologue? I usually have to skip the majority of it when I read the play. I get a few lines through, then can't get any farther. re: images from the set of RENT

But bawling? I don't get it. It's different when a performer moves you to tears - that has happened when I have seen close friends perform - but isn't "Bawling" an exagerration?

I can't speak for anyone but me and (I'm not close enough to visit the set), but I can understand the emotion. I've followed the success of RENT since Jonathan's death was in the press (9 years ago now.) It took me quite a few months to finally get to see it, but seeing the original cast back then was something really special. Then to watch the many, many companies pop up all over the world? It was amazing to see the show's success explode like that. Then, we had the rumor of a movie version lurking around for years now - so it's wonderful to see it *finally* happening. For me, the emotion wouldn't be as much about the actual performers (although that does make it incredibly meaningful to me) as it is the emotion of Jonathan's work being transformed into a motion picture. Being near the set makes it become so real (I feel that from just seeing photos) so of course there will be some emotion involved in that. Had I been standing there on the set? Yeah, I probably would have been moved to tears. Updated On: 3/12/05 at 11:34 AM

Normal Heart...I bawled. That play was terrifying. I think my dad was the only one in the theatre dry-eyed. Even the ushers were crying at the end.
