Does anyone know the best place to get the lyrics (and translations) for Light in the Piazza? Also a synopsis with the songs put in? Thank you!

The libretto is included with the CD, but I'm not sure if a translation is included for the lyrics for "Il Mondo Era Vuoto".

I borrowed the cd from a friend to see if I wanted to buy it, so right now I dont have the insert. I was wondering if there was a place online that I could find it... thank you for answering.

Look for Barihunk's post 1/2 way down. Very detailed with songs included.

Word on the street is that lyrics aren't out online yet...

Not sure if the lyrics are on this site somewhere, though.

well if you search for 'piazza synopsis' there is a really well written one posted on the board.

i dont think anyones posted the translated lyrics for the songs- i know i only vaguely explained Aiutami a while ago.

The booklet in the CD does in fact have the translations for Il Mondo Era Vuoto.

Well, just in case it can't be found, here's translation for the song portion Aiutami (the beginning is basically Fabrizio crying out how he's lost because Clara's gone), stanza for stanza, to the best of my ability:

Oh, what trouble!
What can I do?
Oh, somebody save me!
Where was my head? (sort of like he's lost his mind)
I've lost my love!

Then Giuseppe and Fabrizio repeat the same verse and go on:

For a kiss,
For a kiss,
What can I do?
Pity me!
What can I do?
I'm caught up in a catastrophe.

And that verse also repeats in the round.

Signor Naccarelli is saying:
Little one.
Poor one.
Everything will pass.

It sounds better in Italian.

Isn't it in the past tense?

Che cosa ho fatto? -- What did I do?

I don't have the lyrics yet, so maybe I'm hearing wrong. I didn't have some of the others, though, so I appreciate you're writing this out! I need to order the CD so I've got it all :)

aha. sort of changes the meaning a bit....to think "for a kiss, what did I do?" in the past tense rather than the future of "for a kiss, what can I do". Fabrizio really seems to think it was his fault that Clara left.

Thank you all so much for responding. Light in the Piazza has fast become one of my favorites... I have it on repeat on my CD player. It's so beautiful and Matthew Morrison and Kelli O'Hara seem to me the Barbie and Ken on Broadway... they are adorable together (okay, that comment is based patheticlly on pictures and the Tony awards)

"Love to Me" has got to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs on this CD.

Love to Me is really pretty. I'm also in love with Passeggiata- I get giddy everytime I listen to it- and Aiutami. And those are just SOME of my favorites.

To see "Love to Me" on stage.....I was speechless. You could hear a pin drop in the theatre. Magical. Amazing.

Okay, stanza for stanza translation from someone who actually *speaks* Italian, taken from the Piazza livejournal community:

Abbi Pietà! Abbi Pietà! Che sciagurato! Son perduto! O, Signore!
Forgive me! Forgive me! –can't translate to english exactly, but means "someone that is no good" – I’m lost! Oh God!

Oh, che guaio
Che cosa ho fatuo
O signore salvami
Dov'era la mia testa
L'ho perduta, la mi'amor
Aiutami! Aiutami!

A problem
What did I do
Jesus save me
Where did I have my head
I have lost my lover
Help me! Help me!

GIUSEPPE/FABRIZIO
Oh, che guaio
Che cosa ho fatuo
O signore salvami
Dov'era la mia testa
L'ho perduta, la mi'amor

A problem
What did I do
Jesus save me
Where did I have my head
I have lost my lover

Per un bacio! Per un bacio
Che cosa ho fatto
Pietà di me
Che cosa ho fatto
Mi son buttato
In una catastrofe

For a kiss! For a kiss
What did I do
Have pity on me
What did I do
I threw myself
In a catastrophe

SIGNOR NACCARELLI
Piccolino
Poveretto
Tutto passerà

Small
Poverty/Poor
It will pass

So, I was pretty close... re: light in the piazza But the accurate translation does explain some things better than mine--Fabrizio isn't losing his mind, it's more of a "what was I thinking?" type thing.

By any chance does anyone have the translation for Il Mondo Era Vuoto... I put it into BabelFish and this is what it spit out:

Fabrizio: The world was empty the shadows riempivan the not pariva light never Clara, the light in the public square Clara, my light, mine cor Hour that is wide awake To the shadow vo not to return I did not know to feel solo Lacking in the sense of the life Was cosi Clara Clara Clara, my light, mine cor the essence that lacked to me, six you It your light m' overflows But it cannot love to me Not therefore Or Not amera Clara a child cannot love a child God Papà I slept I did not know I am only Single in the buio I was not alive Not there was Clara But hour your light m' overflows Fabrizo: I must seem more like a man than succeeded, the more important, the more, more... more like Van Johnson! Mr.: Van Johnson? Fabrizio: , Van Johnson! Mr.: You want to assomiglaire to Van Johnson? Baudelaire wants to be Fred Astaire. Not! And too much late. You will remain in bohemian Fabrizio: It helps me, Papà! Mr.: Even tomorrow Fabrizio: Not, it cannot tomorrow be, dev' to be now! But it cannot love to me Not therefore Or Clara will not love a child cannot love a child God! Papà! Clara Clara Clara, my light, mine cor the essence that lacked to me, six you Six you Clara Clara, my light, mine cor the essence that lacked to me, six you Six you Clara Clara Clara, my light, mine cor in the buio I was not only alive Or God give my Clara to me Or, paddre, its light Mr.: Or, Madonna mine! OK, Van Johnson! Fabrizio: M' overflows

Hee hee! Babelfish amuses me so.

If you have the C.D., it's loosely translated in the lyrics booklet that came with it.

The Piazza livejournal community link is below.
I think someone actually put the translation of Il Mondo Era Vuoto up there. If not, I'm sure it can be requested.

I love Aiutami...my favorite song, the melody is so chilling. I sort of tied in Aiutami with Ayudame ("Help me!" in Spanish)

This is my signature.
