what happened to him. i understand how the economics in media make a theatre gossip column difficult....but i do miss all the drama and stories he broke.
Is anyone else doing theatre gossip now? He anyone replaced him or is it all chat rooms now?
I saw him at the “Smash” opening night and got really nostalgic for “Theater Talk”.
Chat rooms? What decade have you traveled from?
Social media personalities have decimated the need for someone such as Reidel, in the same way that they took away the need of paparazzi (as large as it was in the mid-2000s through early 2010s). This is also also why publications such as the NYT are changing their staffing, to reflect the current landscape - or why social following and engagement plays a part in theatrical casting.
Go on Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, and you’ll find dozens of people with tens of thousands of views (if not more) breaking down whatever the “drama” or “gossip” is of the moment. Why pay someone for a job that so many people are willing to do for free?
They don't call him "The terrible infant of the New York press" for no reason.
When asking a question people who graduated elementary school use a question mark. When talking about a person, you capitalize their name. Do better Crusty Bagel/Krup You/Blow Gabriel/Broadway Flash 💋

My hope is for Riedel to write another book. I’m not sure if he still has the insider connections/gossip he was once famous for, but I would love to read his retelling of Broadway navigating the late 2010’s through the early 2020’s.

I’d almost expect him to have better connections and info now that people will be more confident what they tell him won’t end up in print.

Ew? Did you just look in the mirror?
He is on the latest episode, in the second half, of Theater: All The Moving Parts discussing the musical "CHESS". The whole episode is good.
