Posted: 6/8/09 at 10:17amit's about time and the Tony nominees came out a while ago... this is possibly why Desire shut like 4 weeks early.

I feel like all I ever post about is rush so here goes.....
With this show closing, I assume there will be more people rushing than normal. Any suggestions for Thursday? Or anyone else going on Thursday?

Posted: 6/8/09 at 10:48amI'm debating now if I should exchange my ticket for The Philanthropist for this Friday to another day so I can see this a second time.

Posted: 6/8/09 at 10:52amThe little teeny bit from the play (why is the intro longer than the clip) did generate some interest in our viewing crowd. (Although God of Carnage was better received)

Posted: 6/8/09 at 11:07amI'm still waitin' for IRENA'S VOW to go the way of the dodo. That "reasons" is closing is extremely upsetting.

Posted: 6/8/09 at 11:42amI agree Yankee. I mean, watching the Tony telecast, I forgot "Irena's Vow" even existed. I think "reasons..." is a great play, and I'm surprised it didn't do better business with the younger crowd. I guess everyone was too busy standing in line at 4am for "Next to Normal" instead of this show. Oh well. No doubt it will do great business in regional theaters. My only complaint about the show is the white wall used for the set. I mean, they couldn't have made it not just a plain white wall? I mean, they couldn't have added some dirt to it or something? Picky, I know.

I'm not at all surprised. Terrible marketing at first, then becoming non-existent (I imagine because of no money). A show nobody's ever heard of with four no-names is a tough sell when there's no subscription base to rely on (as there was at the Lortel last summer).
"reasons" is LaBute's best play in years, but I can't help but wonder if it would survive, had it been "The Shape of Things," with the original cast of Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz, Gretchen Mol and Fred Weller.
It's unfortunate, it really is, that this show did not succeed. Gotta give credit to the producers for trying. Fortunately, LaBute's new play will be part of MCC's new season, as I understand it.

The best new play to open on Broadway this season is the first to go after the Tonys.
Very unfair and sad to see this great work go. I hope to see it again before it closes.

I have seen this play twice and I can easilly see it again without a problem. I do hope to make it to The Lyceum before it closes. This was my introduction to LaBute's work and I left the theatre craving more of his work.
Sad to see such a good play go. But, I do agree that the advertsing did kill it and destroy any chance it had of good ticket sales. From showing pictures of fat naked people to changing how they wrote the title out to changing thier website name. I feel that reasons to be pretty gives you a good example on how not to advertise for a show that you want to succeed.
