Wait. When did you see An American In Paris perform?
And the show "sounds terrible"? The one that won the Academy Award for Best Film?
That features the immortal line "That's a nice dress you're almost wearing"?

Have you seen the movie?

I saw Finding Neverland in Boston and it was one of the best musicals I've seen (I've seen almost 30 Broadway shows/tours/etc). The story was compelling and i loved the music. It was spectacular yet touching at the same time with the message to believe. I loved learning about the story of how Peter Pan came to be (and i know that some of it may be fictionalized).
I highly recommend it. I will see it again this summer and am looking forward to seeing the changes. I felt the show was a little slow at first but when J.M. Barrie meets the family the show just explodes.
I'm looking forward to seeing An American in Paris as well!

Good lordy, Philly. Can you just go away? Every post you make just digs your hole a bit deeper.

Edited: Aaahhhh, so much better using the block feature.

If you like Gershwin and dancing, how, why, would you predict a flop? Back to the OP, this and every year is a good year for Broadway. I haven't seen either one but Fun Home and American in Paris are totally on my radar.. FH already have tix.

Phil thinks this is just like "Nice Work If You Can Get It" - I guess that's why he thinks it will be a "disaster".
Phil apparently knows nothing of the film, of the actual story, of Craig Lucas on book, or of Wheeldon on choreography. Phil doesn't think much of one of the leads - don't know which because Phil doesn't fill out his "opinions."
And it's just astounding to him - that based on all of his years in the industry - that the producers of An American in Paris don't know their show is baaaaad and a disaster in the making. All of those positive reviews from Paris mean nothing! Nothing!

Personally, I'm not all that excited about American in Paris, but that doesn't mean it won't be good or even wonderful -- for whatever reason, it doesn't excite me. I'll likely still see it, as I try to see everything, this is just low on my list.

I have, however, fallen in love with quite a few shows that didn't pique my interest initially.

Imagine that: my OPINION is that it is not for me, but I can state that without bashing a show I haven't seen. What a concept.

Nope. I have never bashed a show I have not seen. EVER. I can't speak for anyone else.

But Philly, it isn't you opinion. You shouldn't have an opinion about something you have not seen. If you do, that just makes you an @$$hole and an idiot.

Oh wait... You've already done that plenty of times. Proceed with your nonsense.

I'm another voice supporting Finding Neverland: I LOVED it in Cambridge. Spectacular music and dancing. Absolutely fantastic ensemble, most of whom are recreating their roles on Bway. A lot of people found the messages of the show to be simple (play a lot, maintain your childlike spirit) but I found the messages to be contradictory and layered in a way that made them complex like real life, and therefore actually pretty deep.

I say this as someone who did some hating on the incessant publicity, before I found out that that was more common than I thought. In any case, don't base decisions about whether to see a show on the publicity approach.

Also, FN has one of the most powerful Act I climaxes that I've ever seen. If they do that anywhere near as well as they did it in Camb, it's worth seeing just for that.

Regaring An American in Paris:

"i love Gershwin, and I love dancy shows. But I'm tired of seeing stuff like this, and i just don't think its gonna be well received. Sounds like a disaster to me at least"

Philly's right again!
