Heidi Blickenstaff is only in Mermaid because they have a "name" lined up for the spring/summer. Her schedule precluded her from beginning this winter.

Considering they didn't cast said "name" until after Heidi had signed a contract setting her own dates...I call shenanigans on your information.

I can back up doubleentendre on this.
They didn't even begin auditioning for the replacement coming in after Blickenstaff until the week the press release announcing her casting was released, which was fairly recently.
Blickenstaff signed the contract to replace Scott the week after [title of show] closed on Broadway and specifically gave ten weeks as her date of availability.
They wanted her and then happened to get a "name" to begin when she wasn't available, not the other way around.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I think they probably aren't allowed to announce the name. Disney is pretty strict on that kind of stuff.

I can't imagine a name going into that show - especially as Ursula. Unless it's someone like Rosie O'Donnell or something. Is Ursula's vocal range pretty tough? If Scott and Heidi can sing it - and they both have awesome voices - then the "name" must have to be pretty legit.

Question: Did [tos] make ANY "Top 10 list" for Broadway/New York theater scene 2008?
From what I can tell, they didn't. But I might be wrong. Please correct me if I am.
Sure, [tos] has friends in high places ~ this website being one of them!!! ~ but if they've lost their eye from the critics, I doubt we have to live in fear of [tos] returning.

BobbyBubby, your suggestion killed her! I hope you're happy.
I wonder if Jodi Benson could pull off playing Ursula? Because...that would be kind of interesting.

This has veered a little off topic into the Mermaid Lagoon, but to bring it back around, let me just chime in and say that if all the ravenous fans of this thing want it back so badly, then maybe they should all get together and pool their funds and bring it back themselves. No producer with a functioning brain cell is going to touch this steaming pile of damaged goods. So let the fans produce it.There must be a good dozen or so. They can have their choice of theatres after all the January closings, and then, when it is up and running again, they can sit in the empty theatre, which they will have all to themselves, and watch the garbage, I mean show, over and over and over again instead of cluttering up this board with endless posts about it.
VARIETY hit the nail on the head with this insipid musical, in this week's year end round-up:
"The foolhardy transfer of Off Broadway hitlet "(title of show)" was a self-congratulatory bit of insider musical spoofing that (tried too hard)."
