Nobody is stomping on ANYONE's dreams. Using your logic, no one should be able to criticize anything. Just by being a performer of ANY sort you are opening that very door. If the fact that some people might not like your work is enough to keep you from pursuing a career in theatre, than you definitely don't have the fortitude for it.
Actors have to go on when everyone else tells them no. Period. If actor's don't believe in themselves ABOVE everyone else's opinions then they will never make it.
Discussions are suppose to look at all sides of a topic.
37 Arts is basically the off-Broadway equivalent of the Cort.
My point is, it's NOT Broadway. So if they're eyeing a Broadway comeback, WHY would they even consider that venue?
Did I say I wasn't going to be an actor? Nope. But every person has that one fear that comes with doing what they do. People who claim to "love theatre" who wish ill on any part of it simultaneously are my fear.
Hi. Ok, thanks for clarifying. :)
I was confused since everyone here (save you) is talking about BROADWAY.
Happy holidays! :)
What does my liking or disliking have to do with it? I was trying to simply talk about things totally removed from my personal opinion...I didn't say it WON'T re-open or that it shouldn't.
And I highly doubt I usually say "I enjoyed it but" at the begining of most of my posts. (But if I do, it's so that people realize I am not BASHING the show.) Why does everything have to be black and white. Can't someone enjoy something and STILL find flaws with it? Can't someone dislike a show but still find positive aspects? Of course they can.
And I'm fully aware that they found backers originally....that doesn't mean that they will (or won't) again. And WAY more than any percieved fan base...or comments on a discussion board, it the recent history...if they couldn't sell past 55% capacity when the economy wasn't HORRID; why would investors think that would change now.
AGAIN...I'm not saying it won't happen; I don't know and don't pretend to, I'm just adding my two cents to a DISCUSSION. (Gee, what a novel idea on a [gasp} discussion board.)

Not a personal attack- a diagnosis. Accurate too. It's a show. Not your puppy. You are WAY too involved in this. You need help.
ColorTheHours048, you're taking this to a silly level of high drama.
While I agree that people on this board (and certainly in this thread) tend to get a little vicious, you're just as ridiculous in saying that they're "crushing dreams" by daring to point out the fact that [title of show] making a return is economically foolish, which is a blunt truth based on its Broadway performance.
You said it yourself: you're naive. It's nice to be all idealistic and sappy about how they defied the odds (because they did,) but the numbers don't lie. While I think you should be able to be as hopeful as you want to be, you can't fly off the handle when people who don't share your idealistic viewpoints cite facts, even if they do tend to get a bit nasty.
Though I am in the camp of those who would like to see the show come back, I seem to be in the minority of those with that opinion in that I recognize just what a bad business decision that could potentially be. While the run at The Lyceum was a success in many ways, it was a financial failure, end of story.
That being said, the team at The Producing Office was aware from day one that giving the show a commercial life stood almost no chance at turning a profit. Jeffrey Seller and Kevin McCollum funded [title of show] because they felt it deserved the pinnacle of a Broadway run from an artistic standpoint. Because of that, I don't see them hesitating to bring it back again, especially Off-Broadway where it would stand a chance at attaining the longevity that alluded it this past summer.
If it does return (which I would say is likely,) 37 Arts as the venue would be a given, considering Seller and McCollum own the space (which is starkly vacant) and produce the show.

I think it should reopen as a limited run. Something like April 7 - June 28. If they get a nice advance due to the Tony's, then extend it, but just don't make it an open run.
37 Arts looks like my basement turned into a theater.

IT. WAS. A. JOKE!
I love [tos] as much as the next person, but you're all behaving like a bunch of idiots.
The video from Gypsy is here:

Exactly. I mean, if larger shows like Hairpray, Spamalot, Gypsy, and a bunch of others are closing in January, why would they reopen this show? I know most have been open for a long time now, but for all to be closing within 3 weeks is not just because they felt like it.

Colleen, why are you so negative? Why won't you let dreamers dream?
I can't say I'm really interested in this thread anymore, but would like to respond to colleen:
I don't believe it is a "joke." As stated in the show, the first episode of The [title of show] Show included Hunter and Jeff stating they'd be going to Broadway without really having any backup to that. It then happened, very much like "the Secret." I believe that by stating it again in two public forums, they are doing the same. Whether or not they have backup to that claim this time around is unbeknownst to us, but I don't think it was stated in "jest."

Uh, watch the video. It was clearly stated in jest.
Edit: and where have they stated it again? They stated it once, AS A JOKE, at Gypsy of the Year and deluded fans ran with it turning it into this lunacy. I am sure the four of them are reading this and laughing their rears off at how anything they say is taken at gospel truth by some people around here.
I know it was a joke but they've been making that same "joke" since the show closed.

It is worth saying that they were making that "joke" before they got to broadway in the first place.
I don't think they're kidding.

I don't know either if it is
a. a joke
b. a fact
or
c. wishful thinking
The other REACTION to the statement seemed to make it a joke, however.
Word ghostlight.
They may have delivered it as a joke, but I don't think their intentions are a joke.
"haha, we're saying we're reopening on Broadway... but not really!!!" ...?
I don't think they're that self-depricating.
