Side Show closed after about 5 months to rumors that it was going to reopen soon. It didn't happen, and those were MUCH better economic times.

Uh, people, it was a JOKE.
Here's a thought:
If they got rid of those damned pretentious brackets around the name of their show, more people might be inclined to investigate it.
IMHO, they "cutesied" their way right off many theater-goers radar screens.
Stop the crazy website show nonsense and put those energies instead into re-imagining their production to create the illusion that the show might actually be entertaining and not a big joke. That might make more folks willing to cough up the money to check them out.
Just sayin'...They may just have gone a bit too far over the wrong edge to be taken seriously any more.....

I can remember one instance in which a show closed and then reopened later in the same season -- it was back in the 50's and was an Osborne play titled Epitaph for George Dillon. David Merrick was involved and the second opening was heralded as "due to the overwhelming number of theatregoers who wanted to see this play." The second time around, it ran less than the first.

They wrote a great show it had its moment but its over move on please.
They couldnt even stay open when tickets had a huge discount.
I would love for them to do this but it won't It was an amazing show and should have run forever but it can't. I had dinner last night and I was talking with some people about theater and they mentioned that they LOVED [TOS] They are that regular at the theater but they loved [title of show] I think everyone who saw it loved it but not enough people saw it.
I took the comment to be a joke, but... that would be FANTASTIC if it came back!
And why not? Seriously, you can mention money and producers and whatnot, but there are going to be enough empty theatres by then, and the cast has fun doing the show, and we have fun watching them, so why not? Sure, it will probably be a loss, but by reopening in April it could be a better chance for Tony's and what producer doesn't want one of those for their resume?

Whether or not it's true, I'm not going to lie - I'd definitely go back to see [tos] again if it re-opened.
>but there are going to be enough empty theatres by then<
No there aren't. If you check the "Joe Turner's Come and Gone at the Belasco" thread, just about every theatre is now booked for spring.
For those saying that it was a joke,or anyone that heard the original comments, can you tell us exactly what was said?
I HATE ALL THIS ****ING NEGATIVITY! Don't you people have a favorite show? Don't you people have any dreams at all? Who the hell is it hurting for fans of [tos] to believe in it enough to think it could maybe, MAYBE return?
This is a show about people who beat every odd to get their dream that ignited a pretty big fanbase of people who were craving a show that really spoke to them. Not just a beautiful piece of theatre or something that was really technically and classically brilliant, but one that spoke to them. Not everybody would be touched by it or even enjoy it, but those who did enjoy it and who were touched by it would remember forever. It wasn't one of those flops that was a write off. I was there closing night and there was something very palpable and (this word is thrown around a lot by everyone, but really:) amazing in the sense that I was amazed. As crazy as some of the fans were, they were touched by that simple story with only four chairs, a keyboard, four cast members, and three walls.
Instead of being the "theatre connoisseur" that you are, stop being so damn stuffy. Is it unrealistic? Yes. But was it unrealistic for the show to even open on Broadway in the first place? Absolutely. It may have only stayed open for 15 weeks, but it DID open. And it was on Broadway. I won't be sad if it doesn't open again, but I'll be ecstatic if it does. And if I want to think that, I don't see such an issue. There's no reason for ANYONE to be so damn negative and rude about it. It's just a dream, nothing more.

I whole-heartedly agree, Colors.
It's sad that some people seem to think they know the formula for a great Broadway success. God forbid a show that isn't jukebox, movie-based or celebrity boasting bid for a piece of the Broadway pie. Not that Dancin Thru Life's post even deserves a response, but really? The show should completely de-personalize itself to lure in the tourists? I'm sure the brackets are what sent the tourists running...
etoile, is broadway all about the money for you? if so, im very very sorry.
people dont become theatre actors because they are trying to make millions of dollars. atleast, thats not why i plan to spend my life waitressing and auditioning out of college.

Remember you guys--Heidi is only doing TLM for 10 weeks . Somebody please explain to me what this means, if she does not have plans to return to tos...
It means that you and I can sit next to each other again when they open at the intimate Radio City Musical Hall.
Just LIKING the show isn't enough to re open it. EVERY actor ON Bway and gads of actors that have never gotten cast want to make art. But it doesn't happen that way.
Don't kid yourselves kids....it is ALL about money. If you can't find someone to back you, you can't open.
YES, its a miracle that any show makes it to b'way, but that doesn't mean every show deserves to be there. I haven't heard anyone here be terribly negative, just realistic. And NO...not everyone that saw it loved it. I know of scores of folks that reported people walking out. I know theater people that were not that impressed.
No one is killing puppies here, folks: just stating opinions...and thats what a discussion board is for. If only wanted a ONE sided conversation -- where everyone agrees with you -- you don't go to a public discussion board!
Additionally, do you really think that because some peopole DON'T think it will happen on a discussion board that it will affect any chances that it has? OY.

For the backers, Broadway is all about money - and THEY are the ones standing in the way of [tos] right now, not the actors, not us, not anyone but the people cashing their checks.
I just don't understand why people come on this board on their high horses and think it's okay to trample all over people's ideas, dreams, opinions. I thought what this board was based on was a mutual love and passion for theatre, but I've come to realize it's just a place for people to show how sophisticated they are and how their knowledge of "the biz" is so superior and it gives them the final word. I may be naive, but I just don't understand why everyone has to be such a snob. It's those people who make me dread being an actor.

And some people who come to this board are deluded, oversensitive drama queens.
And yes, I'm aware it's all about money. Not just now, but always. It's a business. I'm naive, not stupid.
The fact that "it's all about the money" should not govern the tastes of theater fans, though.
I'm shocked you didn't preface your post with your usual "I enjoyed the show BUT" BS, mama.
It clearly did find someone to back it or it wouldn't have made it to Broadway the first time. If they make it a second time, it will make it because someone will agree to back it yet again. Backing it is also semi-contigent on the producer seeing the viability of a fan base, so people fervently stating their support of the show is part of that process. I don't see anyone who supports [title of show] saying that people who feel the other way shouldn't state their opinion, what I do see is people calling out someone for making the outrageous claim that re-opening would be to "please their 6 fans" as a diplorable statement.
People walk out of every show, so I don't see how that is a valid argument. It can clearly be seen from their viral videos (the [tos]s or 9 People's video) that they have a vast and varying fanbase including "scores" of Broadway talent.
This show died a quicker death because of the economy not allowing it the time to build an audience, not because of lacking quality.
I'm still wondering when 37 Arts became a Broadway house (and adesirable one) since that's the theatre that's been mentioned.
On a side note from the current tangent...
From Wikipedia (I know, not a good source, I just found it funny that it's in there)
"According to the Original Cast of [title of show] on Dec 8, 2008 at the Gypsy of the year [title of show] will be returning to Broadway in April, 2009"
