I heard watching the Gypsy of the Year that the cast said that it will reopen in April can anyone confirm
Doubt it. It couldn't find an audience the first time, why would they find one a second time? They will lose more money.
Kind of pathetic if they did this just to please their 6 fans.
There's a reason Heidi Blickenstaff is only going to be in THE LITTLE MERMAID for ten weeks.
I agree. Disney would have signed her for longer if she didn't object to it.

I'd love to see it reopen! Such a great show and I'm sad I only got to catch the closing performance!
If there is any show that I'd like to see back on Broadway, it's [title of show]. It's got the most heart of any show that I've ever seen.
This was the show's attendance for the entire run...week by week
Week
1- 53.9%
2- 52.8%
3- 48.5%
4- 51.8%
5- 54.5%
6- 48.4%
7- 49.5%
8- 45.5%
9- 49.9%
10- 32.2%
11- 30.4%
12- 35.8%
13- 37.6%
14- 43.9%
15- 53.9%
Their attendance only peaked at 54.5%. And the highest amount of money they grossed was $217,645.
Not trying to be mean, but why do you guys think it would be a good idea to re-open this? Besides satisfying the show's small fan base, I do not see why it make sense at all.

i love the show to death but if they reopen they HAVE to reopen off broadway. those nuumbers are like that because they could'nt fill the big theater it was in. put it off broadway and i think it would do decent numbers.
Why? Because it's not all about the money. Yeah, the show didn't make that much, but if there is still someone willing to pay to open it, then why not?
This show really deserves to still be open, because of its message and beauty. Really, it should be given every chance possible to effect as many people as it can.
It had a small fanbase, but had more people seen the show, I have no doubt that the fanbase would be huge.
Why? Because it's not all about the money
- Tell a commercial Broadway producer that. And I agree this could only work off-Broadway.
I do agree though with you guys that it would do much better off broadway, it's just a shame to have the show closed.

When you think about it, reopening in April is not a bad idea:
1) Sneak it in right before the Tony deadline at the Helen Hayes.
2) Get nominated for best musical, perform at the Tony's sell much more tickets.
3) Won't happen, but upset Billy Elliot and 9 to 5 in the race.

Has a show ever closed and reopened on Broadway in the same season? How would that be handled? Would only the first production technically count?
I'm going to have to agree with ljay889 on this. I've never seen the show myself, but in this economy, it would make no sense for it to open up for a revival, especially 6 months after its original run. I don't think it could open up as being a totally new show, since it has already played. And for the Helen Hayes theater, the 39 Steps is moving in there, so that would definitely not work, unless it closed.
I have a feeling they want to reopen so they can be remembered for the Tony Awards come June.
ETA: And I must say, if [title of show] opened on Broadway again, I'd have to go back. It's not a perfect show, but it has affected me so much.
gee ljay, looks like "all 6" of [tos]'s fans found their way to this thread... dbag.
Anyway. 54% of the Lyceum is about 80%+ of the Hayes on top of the show's incredibly low running costs. I'd love to have [title of show] back on Broadway this spring.
Lol. I called the idea of re-opening a show with a small fan base "pathetic." and I get called names. Mature. Yeah, I was a little snarky, but the idea is pretty ridiculous.

I could be mistaken, but I think they were joking when they mentioned this at Gypsy Of The Year. Wish it would be true though...

Whether or not it's a good idea, in both the Gypsy sketch and in the newest episode of their web series, no one denied it. Suspicious!

"Because it's not all about the money."
Now that's funny.
1. I agree they are going to have a tough time finding the $ to re-open....unless that was part of the deal with closing after only 15 weeks....?? Just a thought. (Have the money now, or have the money later?)
2. The rumors of them making a comeback (started BY {tos}) have been out there since about a month after they closed. But this time last year it was just a rumor they were opening on Bway at all!)
3. It would indeed be a shameless attempt to snag a few Tony Award noms, in hopes to get a broader audience.
I ENJOYED {tos} a great deal, but it is really an OFF B'way show. Simple idea, simple music. Yes, it is a universal theme: Go for your dreams; but it is not "selling" that way. It's seen as a B'way insider story. Insider in this case being theater goers.
If it opens again, will I see it? Not sure. IF it fit in with one of my visits and those I was with wanted to....I wouldn't be opposed. Will I rush to its side...sorry {tos}...I won't.
My money's on a limited run starting sometime late April and running through the end of the summer. If Jeffrey and Kevin are smart, which they are, they'll put it in 37 Arts.
But isn't 37 Arts off-Broadway? And isn't that the space everyone on here has called a death trap?
I couldn't care less about title, but wouldn't the point be to reopen on Broadway??

Maybe off-Broadway and they have a very large fan base. I want it to reopen.
Side Show closed after about 5 months to rumors that it was going to reopen soon. It didn't happen, and those were MUCH better economic times.
