re: What's going into the two soon to be vacant theaters? Aug 28

In defense of original poster, all you smarties - the Search Function is useful only if you can guess the right key words. Try searching "Vacant Theaters" and you'll come up with this thread only. "New Shows" yields one other relevant thread. We all phrase things differently - English is a big language. "Search" is not the universal answer, so give people a break, and add that verse to your song.

I did a tab version of Grease there a few hundred years ago. They took out chunks of dialog, left in all the dancing, so we could play it twice a night back-to-back. They don't want to keep you out of the casino for too long

re: What to see? Jul 26

Just came back after 2 weeks - saw everything, and I can say w/o a doubt - see DOUBT. Best show, bar none - flawless cast, fascinating script - a great evening of theater. My next choices would be Altar Boyz which does what it does perfectly, and Fiddler if it's still playing (Harvey is unique, loving, wonderful - and the production is gorgeous. I've done it a million times from H.S. to CLO, but this performance moved me as if I'd never seen it before. In spite of Nancy Opel who as

re: Professional audition advice? Jun 25

aigoo, yes - the actors (in this case, actresses) who stood out were the ones who were most comfortable in their own skin. It wasn't about being the prettiest, or the funniest, or having the biggest belt or best turn-out - we went for a variety of real people, and the ones who just walked in as themselves - no matter what that was - were the ones we responded too. Now mind you, this might not work at an audition for DRS or 42nd St, where the ensemble is all about being uniform. But

That CCM link was great! Just sat on the other side of the table for an outrageous set of auditions. Over the course of the week, my jaw dropped as of amazing young double-to-triple threats came through the door. One person after another sang and danced like crazy. What it came down to, finally, was sense of SELF. The actors who brought themselves to the audition distinguished themselves in the most compelling way. I think the single most important thing you c

re: Would THE MUSIC MAN work on Broadway again? Jun 10
2005, 08:59:37 AM
Was just watching the special material on the DVD with my 11-year-old daughter (who aspires to play Harold Hill in her summer camp production, God love her!), and they said the studio wanted Sinatra (at the height of his movie stardom) for Harold Hill, but Meredith W. said "No Preston, no movie". Wish they'd been able to do the same for Harvey and Hairspray. Anyhoo I think what it would take to sell a new Music Man is a new Robert Preston. Not someone channeling the genius. Not som

re: Philadelphia: 1776 Sing along? May 28

I don't think the Bush administration would much like to see a revival of 1776. It reminds us too much of what the government is supposed to be. Adams and Jefferson would freak at what's going on in the name of the Constitution. For that matter, I bet JC would too.

re: Disney -- Good or Bad for Broadway? May 21

Disney was brilliant for Broadway when they/Menken/Ashman brought the book musical back to the masses with Little Mermaid, Beauty, Aladdin, etc. Success begets success - thank you, Mickey.

re: Currently Listening to? May 8

My college daughter's loving Last 5 Years and A New Brain. My 11-year-old (who loves Ethel Merman and Howard Keel) got freaked out by Sweeney Todd, and has retreated to the glory of Disney in the 80s and 90s. My son will occasionally join her in an Aladdin or Lion King riff. My husband's having a Little Shop revival. I've fallen in love with Music Man all over again. I love my family so much!!

re: Please don't shoot me for disliking Wicked... May 8

I didn't feel it either. However my 11-year-old daughter couldn't breathe when it was over. She was hyperventilatingly overwhelmed the way I remember getting when I saw Peter Pan fly. So even though I found flaws aplenty, I forgive Wicked for rocking my kid.
