Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/6/25 Apr 8
2025, 11:42:55 PM
Went to NYC this past week for a theater trip, and saw a lot of Broadway - Cabaret, Gypsy, Othello, Just in Time, Maybe Happy Ending, Oh Mary, Picture of Dorian Gray, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Death Becomes Her.
So many of the shows were full or just next to it (from what I could see). There were a couple of empty rows at Cabaret and Just in Time at midweek performances, and a few empty seats right near us at Gypsy (for which I was thankful, for space reasons), but t

THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY Reviews Apr 7

Saw the matinee this afternoon. I thought Sarah Snook was truly fabulous, and the show itself was a technical marvel, but I hope that this type of hybrid doesn't become a trend. When I'm watching theater, I enjoy having the freedom of what to look at on stage, and the way this is put together doesn't give you much of a choice other than to watch the screens most of the time, making it kind of hard for me to get immersed. I get why they're doing it for this show,

OH MARY! Replacement Casting Thread Apr 6
2025, 01:35:12 PM
Saw Tituss yesterday afternoon! It was our first experience with the show, so I can't compare him with anyone, and I was not a big fan of his going in because I hadn't seen him in much - we booked the date before he was announced. But I thought he was fantastic, and he seemed very comfortable in the role, physically and vocally.
I was a bit worried that the hype for this show would make it fall flat for me, but I found it extremely funny in a way where I am almost sur

Jennifer’s matinee absence today was scheduled / planned / announced in advance."
No, it wasn't. I bought tickets ages ago, and while they sent us a notice that Michelle Williams would be out yesteday on 3/31, we only got the email about Jennifer on Saturday morning at 10:30am."
Yes, it was scheduled/announced in advance. The notice isstill visible on the official ticketing site. It’s been up there for a while. Well before yesterday morning at 10:30AM. "
This was not up when we bought tickets, and we did not get any notification about her absence until yesterday.
If it was a legit planned absence, I don't think they would have sent an email out four hours in advance offering refunds.
And if you're saying they put it up earlier and just didn't notify ticketholders (which you definitely are not proving with this screencap, just that they put it up at some point), then that's an extremely poor way to treat paying customers.

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews Apr 5
2025, 01:11:26 PM
We saw it last night. I was very grateful that Audra was in, but a little bummed that Joy Woods was out. No matter, though, because Shanel Bailey was fantastic as Louise.
I'd read a lot of complaints here about this production, but I'm happy to say I did not take issue with the choices made or the vocals. Audra's Rose's Turn truly brought the house down.
Did not realize how tight the seats were in that theater - so glad the folks next to me did not sh

Mescal to bring Frecknall-helmed STREETCAR to Broadway? Apr 4
2025, 01:31:26 AM
I was getting really worried about this one based on some of the things I read here, but I’m happy to report that this production worked extremely well for me.
Some flourishes felt a little unnecessary at times, but I liked quite a few of the elements that other folks found grating - the drums throughout, the stylized movement of the company, etc. I found the emphasis heightening, not prescriptive.
All three leads were excellent, but particularly Patsy Ferran - she wa

Went to see this last night, and had a great time. Groff is clearly enjoying himself so much, and we as the audience were eating it up - he's charming as hell, he's onstage for basically the entire first act... a born entertainer! If you are a fan of his, I'd strongly advise a trip to CITS.
The show itself is fine, nothing mind-blowing - not sure how well it would work without Groff. Gracie Lawrence has a nice voice, but needs to get a little more comfo

Cabaret Casting Rumor: Orville Peck & Eva Noblezada Apr 1

Went to see this tonight mainly for Eva, but I gotta say, I was absolutely blown away by how good Orville Peck was as the Emcee. Can't believe this was only his second performance! His vocals were fine, but what really impressed me was the physicality he brought to the role - funny, creepy, menacing, all very convincingly. He's an imposing presence on the stage, which is clearly what he's supposed to be in the context of this production, and he seems very natural at it. <

We're coming to the city for a bunch of shows this week, and we have tickets for what is now the third preview! This will easily be the earliest I've seen a show, especially one that hasn't been done before (as far as I know). I'm really looking forward to it.
If you hadn't looked at tickets recently, they made a bunch more available for this week, and dropped the highest prices considerably. I was debating on trying to upgra

I've got tickets for April 2nd, so I hope the new first preview date sticks. A shame for all the folks who planned to attend the first couple dates, but at least they are giving ample notice.

Thursday and Friday Matinee? Mar 17
2025, 03:14:10 PM
Coming to town in early April, and I am just checking that I'm aware of all of the current Thursday matinees:
- The Great Gatsby
- The Outsiders
- Boop (starting April 10th)
- Conversations with Mother
I've seen the first two shows already, and Boop starts them after I leave town. Anything I am missing?

Yeah, idk how likely a transfer is, but I would plan a whole trip around it. Was thinking of going to see it in London, but I already had an NYC trip planned for this spring and can't manage both.

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway Feb 27
2025, 02:40:39 AM
Just saw this tonight, and it was fantastic! I was not familiar with most of the cast before this aside from Bernadette and Lea, but Beth Leavel, Gavin Lee, Jasmine Forsberg and Kyle Selig were all highlights as well. The staging was fun, too - even the songs I didn't know were engaging. And obviously this varies from day to day, but the audience was incredible tonight. Quiet, responsive, no phones to be seen... wish I could say the same about every show.

Genuinely so glad to hear this!
If any LA area theaters put this on, I'd absolutely be a repeat attendee. This may be my favorite show, period, and while the Broadway version was incredible, I can see it thriving anywhere with the right cast and director.&

GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS To Play The Palace Starting 3/10/25 Dec 10

Bought on the aisle of the side orchestra because it was so reasonably priced and the slightly elevated sightlines looked good on A View from My Seat - crossing my fingers it's not too obstructed.

Travel Tips - Best months to visit NYC? Dec 9
2024, 05:06:18 PM
I like going in April and October whenever I can. The weather's usually pretty good (often rains at least part of the trip, but that's usually it), it's not as expensive as other times of year, and plenty of shows are open.
If you wait til mid-to-late May, you get the max amount of shows, but tickets and lodging are much more expensive because of graduations and things like that.
If you go at Christmas, there are also many shows open, but it's insanel

Mescal to bring Frecknall-helmed STREETCAR to Broadway? Dec 5
2024, 05:41:18 PM
After reading some comments about the membership basically paying for itself with the ticket discount, I joined and bought tickets a few days ago, and man, I am really glad I did. I was gonna see if I could get better seats through the AMEX sale - I got great ones for the James McAvoy Cyrano that way - but clearly, it did not work out the same way this time. Still in the queue out of curiosity, but with 4600+ people in front of me.
