Nice bumps for most. Smash off to a strong start... BOOP not so much...
Wow, that's a nice increase for Chicago!
Glad to see Hadestown doing so well.
If Goodnight, And Good Luck makes that much with only 5 performances I’m terrified to see how much it’ll make with a full 8 show schedule.
Numbers for Gypsy don't look good ...
While the eye-watering box office figures for Othello, Good Night, and Glengarry will likely provide a huge dopamine hit for their producers that will cause them to try to replicate these as often as possible, I really don’t think it’s a viable long term producing strategy.

Less interested in the Othello, GNGL, and Glengarry grosses (we all knew they would be high) than I am in the continued success of Maybe Happy Ending and the rising average ticket price for Mincemeat which is a great sign right before reviews. Also expecting to see Dorian Gray get pretty high as word of mouth gets out. I've never seen an audience leap to their feet so fast.

Yup the Winter Garden has a higher seating capacity than the Barrymore so even though average ticket price for GNGL is $303 and Othello is $338, I can see GNGL overtaking Othello in grosses next week.

Sadly I do think it's a long term producing strategy. These Hollywood names come to Broadway and get paid buckets. Audiences are so star obsessed they will pay top dollar to see their favorite celebrity eat wheat bread and breathe on stage regardless the titles. The tides are changing where it's not really about the show, but about the star. Producers like Greg Nobile are leading the charge on this and the future of new works are in danger. It's all about business and not really about art.
It depends.
Back in 2017, Rudin bundled Hello Dolly with riskier projects like A Dolls house part 2 and Glass Menagerie revival so if you’re an investor, you’re exposed to all 3 productions. Yes the Hello Dolly investors still made money but not as much as they hoped since the 2 riskier productions didn’t recoup.

BOOP has a ton of promotions and giveaways for previews, so I wouldn't read much into the average ticket price or grosses for a few weeks until it actually opens. Especially when I'm sure one of the five performances (first preview) had plenty of free tickets for friends and family.
A looming recession and foreigners cancelling their summer vacations to the US probably doesn't bode well for these high priced, big name shows.

They did have to cancel a performance last week, that could account for the drop.

Post-COVID, West End Theatres See Major Windfalls. Broadway Can't Keep Up

Wow. Operation Mincemeat and The Picture Of Dorian Gray already doing great business with excellent full houses and average ticket prices (that will go up now). Mincemeat has the highest ticket price of any of the new musicals this season only TWO weeks in! Excellent start.

I'm really intrigued to see how Dorian Gray does but I agree that's a really solid start. It's not got the insane star power of some of these plays doing bumper business, but it's leagues better than Othello and GNGL (I haven't yet seen Glengarry yet). My fingers are crossed for it.

I am curious why there is so much backlash at Othello when GNGL is clearly on track from 3.2M week next week. If they did 2.5M in 5 shows imagine what the other number will be. Yet this board is quiet. Just noticing a distinct difference.
Maybe because Othello was first and sparked a giant pile-on of an argument so there isn’t really a lot more left of that dead horse to beat?
The buzz for GYPSY has seemed to fade. $800K for one of the more lauded revivals in one of the largest theatres does not spell good fortunes for the long term, especially with the onslaught of new shows.
BOOP had lots of giveaways and discounts for the first few weeks, so it remains to be seen, but last night the house was full to the hilt - possibly sold out.
Tituss is going to really blow up the box office for OH Mary the next few weeks to make up for the money drop during Betty’s run before Cole comes back. The breakeven cannot possibly be that high, but casting is really going to be critical going forth if it’s going to sustain a high level of buzz post-Tonys
Gypsy grossed $1.16 million this week, not 800k.

And that's with a cancelled performance...

That is interesting and the West End has certainly had its fair share of amazing shows recently, many of which have or are transferring to Broadway. However, feels like self-congratulatory marketing hype for the 'Society of London Theatre Board member' to say “I will absolutely say, and I say this both with knowledge and with love, the UK is the best place in the world to make and to see theatre,".
I still maintain that New York is absolutely the best place to see musicals in the world. The quality of new show writing in particular and acting/singing talent far exceeds that of the West End. It's a different league. Things do seem to be getting a bit more difficult with the spiralling costs but New York has not given up the trophy yet.
Looks like spring is finally here!
Happy trails to Betty Gilpin and Joey Fatone (for now).
Mighty Mouse has arrived in the form of the deluge of A-list celebs taking center stage in Times Square. Most of the plays are obviously doing fantastic numbers and are helping carry the load.
The musicals are doing... okay? Again, heavy discounts throughout previews for all the shows that lack big names in the cast. I'll eat my hat if BOOP! doesn't improve much post-opening. (PURPOSE too, with the excellent reviews it just got.)
It'll be interesting to see SMASH's trajectory and how it is affected by reviews. WOM has, again, been very divisive.
Buena Vista Social Club just keeps climbing. Love to see it!
