Announced replacements that never happened

May 29, 2026 — 2:23:43 PM

"If someone asked me if I would take a pay cut for one week but job would keep me employed after then, I’d take it. Versus what happened, which is immediate layoff and no pay after…"...said no union person ever, BJR. Over TWELVE unions said no to that request. The show was losing money week after week. I am surprised that the show wasn't closed by the theater, as it underperformed consistently. Do you really think that it was reasonable to ask all employees of After Midnight to forgo pay for ...

Announced replacements that never happened

May 29, 2026 — 10:16:56 AM

An earlier post seemed to imply that the reason After Midnight closed was because the unions wouldn't allow them to shut down over the 4th of July week. The reason that the producers wanted to shut down for that week was they wanted to save money. In other words, they did not want to pay anyone in the show for that week. No one. The actors, the musicians, the crew, the ushers, the cleaning staff, bix office, etc. it was an unreasonable concession to ask for. What union would agree to that? None...

Eugene O’Neil Theatre on fire!!

May 29, 2026 — 3:20:05 AM

"Shocked that they were able to reopen so quickly"Me too, ACL2006. It's because they cut corners. The spotlight booth was completely destroyed. Rebuilding will take a great deal of time. So they opted to take a shortcut using an inferior method of lighting the performers. The operators will probably be in a separate room, watching the actors on a screen, directing a robo light through a joystick, like a video game. I'm sure that many would consider this a good trade-off, but this is a terrible...

COME FROM AWAY returning to Broadway?

May 29, 2026 — 3:01:18 AM

It never should have closed. It was still making money. This was a bad call by the Shubert organization. I haven't heard anything about this, but it's a great idea

Strike (probably) averted

Oct 23, 2025 — 7:49:16 AM

Times article with some details. The tentative deal still has to be approved by membership, but the rank and file rarely if ever go against deals struck in negotiation.

It's a troll, people!

"I think it is difficult for many to keep track of all the screen names they have had and will continue to have. They should have been banned numerous times but continue to be able to change their name and continue as if nothing has happened." - Huss417"Even I have this problem. I "hear" a different voice when the name changes. I'm grateful to people who point out the ruses of Flash and Sutton. - joevitusI hear both of you, but a rage-bait subject line of "Sutton Foster will soon best Lansbur...

Chances of a Strike?

Oct 16, 2025 — 11:10:33 PM

Well, HogansHero, I'll say you were right over the years more often than not.I did a little research, which refreshed my memory. From this article:"Last night, the producers left talks with the musicians, their offers far apart, and it was unclear when negotiations might resume. The producers had hoped to present their musicals last night with computer-generated sound -- so-called virtual orchestras. But the producers apparently did not expect the actors and stagehands to respect the musicians...

Chances of a Strike?

Oct 16, 2025 — 1:23:36 PM

"The stagehands' strike in 2007 saw the majority of shows go dark(Nov. 10-2."Point of clarification: the stagehands had voted to authorize a strike, but the League locked them out, which...didn't make a lot of sense.Regarding the possibility of virtual orchestras? It was a complete and unmitigated disaster last time. The karaoke machine (as it was called at the time) kept getting lost, repeating itself, and so on.The technology wasn't even close to there.I do remember a 2 day musician strike ...

Donald Trump Takes Over the Kennedy Center

Mar 14, 2025 — 8:22:04 PM

"IATSE leans VERY far to the right, and they gave #47 a lot of votes. Actions have consequences. Sending thoughts and prayers for their lost jobs."Oh, they do, do they, JSquared2? In BOLD CAPS, no less. Got anything to back that up, other than maybe some anecdotal evidence? Don't even bother to respond unless you have something solidHere's what the leadership of IATSE said to its members in all 50 states:IATSE General Executive Board Endorses Kamala Harris for President of the United States"I...

re: Funny Songs About Death

Missing Michael Riedel

Feb 15, 2025 — 9:09:32 AM

"I seriously doubt that he was right 51% of the time, unless you count half-truths at 50%.People spoke to him because he was more than willing to be their unquestioning conduit in exchange for either a promise of future info on shows (whether accurate or not) and/or a few drinks at Joe Allen's."Or Angus McIndoes, where he was punched in the face by David Leveaux, after Riedel called the 2004 Fiddler on the Roof revival "de-jewed,". Riedel used to hang out at Angus' upstairs bar, eavesdropping...

Jim Morgan resigns from York Theatre

Oct 15, 2024 — 5:37:45 PM

"Gerry McIntyre better not get the job. His manipulations were truly Machiavellian" I think you are being unfair. The timeline of events that led to Morgan's resignation makes it unlikely that McIntyre choreographed Morgan's downfall in any way, George In DC. McIntyre could not have had any idea that Morgan would lose his temper - and direct it towards him - in such an extreme and public way, during a staff meeting in front of witnesses. McIntyre resigned as a result of this very public event...

Jim Morgan resigns from York Thestre

Oct 14, 2024 — 10:40:48 AM

"Yes, one incident like the one described does not get an AD forced out, particularly at a fairly ossified company like the York." One incident is enough if it is egregious and witnessed by others, as this one apparently was, Kad. An outburst like that should never be tolerated. From what I've read/heard, Morgan resigned before they could fire him.

Free Government Covid-19 Test Kits

Sep 28, 2024 — 8:26:40 AM

Got mine today, and have shared it with others. Thanks again, HG." I think people are being a little harsh on RUkiddingme.""I just thought there was beginning to be a little bit of a pile-on against the contrary post, and I don't think that's really called for."As BroadwayRox3588 said (and you acknowledged), RUkiddingme set the tone for the response they got. The decent thing for RUkiddingme to do would have been to apologize, or at least to edit their response.A lot of people have been helpe...

Free Government Covid-19 Test Kits

Sep 24, 2024 — 2:05:41 PM

"Does anyone know where the TDF Covid tests are located? And what time should I get in line in the morning to get the rush covid tests?"That did not turn out the way you expected, did it, RUkiddingme? What possessed you to be so flippant regarding such a serious subject? Thanks, HighlandGuy.

Adrian Bailey (Jelly’s Last Jam, The Little Mermaid) passed away

Sep 24, 2024 — 11:27:27 AM

"Y’all don’t know what a ghost light is?"I obviously do, TotallyEffed. I just didn't understand why you posted it here. It may not be what you intended, but it comes across as a tasteless joke, under the circumstances.Adrian Bailey was an amazing performer: a fantastic dancer, a fine singer, a very good actor, and a really nice guy, whose career and his life as he knew it was ended with that accident.I do appreciate your edit, quizking101, and I hope you will be more careful in the future in ...

re: How is Adrian Bailey ?

Sep 23, 2024 — 5:13:41 PM

As per his FB page, Adrian reported that he was in rehab for a "fractured back" a week or so ago, but he posted daily right up sept 21st.While I don't doubt that he passed, I still have not seen any official confirmation, BWW's obituary not withstanding.
