Coal Miner’s Daughter is STELLAR. I am blown away by what I’ve seen and heard, she’s absolutely dazzling in the show. I smell a Tony. She will then take on the role of Rose in Gypsy, the role she was BORN to play. Sutton is truly the greatest leading lady Broadway has ever had.
Thought I smelled a Crusty Flash...
Responding only to the thread’s title — no, not happening. Even if the stats are eventually on Foster’s side.

Will Sutton's GYPSY be the one that takes place in New Orleans??

It’s not just about awards. Sutton is brilliant on stage and absolutely no one can do what she does. Who else can do an 8 minute tap dance and then belt high notes at the end of it. Shes a wonderful actress, singer, dancer, and comedienne. She’s perfect.

To each their own, but I honestly cannot imagine her as Rose at all. Louise twenty years ago, maybe. (Maaaaybe.) But Rose? She seems all wrong for that.

well given the fact that it’s being done by Roundabout, maybe?

When and where is Coal Miner's Daughter happening? I haven't heard a word since the initial announcement.

I had to check the calender to make sure it wasn't April 1st. I agree, not happening.

Stephanie J Block, Kerry Ellis, Rachel York plus a handful of understudies all did the exact same, in the same production. Im not denying Sutton's talent, but she's certainly not the only performer out there of her calibre.

Coal miners daughter is happening in the next two years. Out of town tryout and broadway production. Sutton’s plan is to do Gypsy a few years after that.

I love your enthusiasm for Sutton, and she is indeed very talented. But I don't think she would be a good Mama Rose because she does not have the physical stature for that part. Further, Sutton is like an energizer bunny -- but in a youthful way, She reminds me of Mary Martin who played" eternally young and charmingly naive" even in her late 50s in I Do I Do. Sutton has more gravitas, for sure, but not that worn out by life quality that Merman had and that Lansbury could act. That's just my opinion, and I could be wrong.
Sutton needs and deserves a great original part that explores her dramatic musical talents, a new show, a new journey -- not a Boop, not a Smash, not a Redwood or Queen of Versailles, something with character and depth, not something superficial or a warmed over movie. She's more than Reno, more than Millie, and more than Drowsy Chaperone.
Gypsy has been revived too many times in the last 10 years, not longer an event. Both the Patti and Audra productions tried for a "legendary," and both lost big money. The recent version with Audra who certainly acted the part brilliantly lost its full $25 million. Gypsy cannot be done with reduced orchestrations and concert sets with everyone in underwear and Herbie getting slathered with paint for. the curtain call -- the show demands that vaudeville-burlesque ambiance, and that is expensive. Styne's score screams full orchestra. So I doubt we will see a full production, maybe a concert version at Carnegie Hall, but not on Broadway.

Call me crazy, but I think Sutton would make a fabulous Mama Rose.

I think it is difficult for many to keep track of all the screen names they have had and will continue to have. They should have been banned numerous times but continue to be able to change their name and continue as if nothing has happened.
