Re: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Broadway Cast Recording Thread

Yeah, and the reason casts aren't told things until right before the public often is because they can't be trusted not to leak, unfortunately. Given this cast's proclivity for drama and issues, I'm not surprised they waited.

She really is stellar in the show. The acting is breathtaking.

Yep. It's absolutely beautiful. Saw on both sides of the ocean. Once this cast has lived in it a bit longer, it'll get even stronger. Andrew Durand and Kelsee Kimmel are delivering Tony-worthy performances.

Re: THE IMAGINARY INVALID Previews

Basically, a woman in a wheelchair decided she was the sole arbiter of what a "reasonable" accommodation was and further decided that gave her license to wantonly disrupt the performance when her demands were not met, causing a show stop, the audience to yell at her, and her refusal to leave until the police were called (at which point she claims she left voluntarily, though I think that ship sailed when she refused to leave in the first place). This is an individual who clearly suffers from m...

She likely will after this. The police had to be called — she would not leave when staff instructed her to. While she ultimately left of her own volition, requiring a police call to do so is generally enough to enforce a ban. Also, she’s posted yet another video about this in which she references the fact the theatre had literally already removed a railing to make room for her chair. Kudos to Roundabout for doing that. No good deed goes unpunished.

I was there, and the version of events she is now peddling online is simply not accurate. At no point did Bill Irwin “turn the audience against her.” He continued performing through a remarkable amount of disruption, finally stopped when the yelling became impossible to ignore (both of the patron and the audience yelling at her), waited, and made a quick “Matinee!” joke. That was it. The audience did not need an actor to instruct us to be frustrated, as Kelsey (the person’s name) did it herse...

Failing a fire inspection doesn't happen when actual professionals are involved and their expertise listened to.

Let's also remember this was written by a venue marketing/ops team and likely not approved by others. I'd take the "established" part with a grain of salt.

Melissa McCarthy.

My thing with SO is that I don't believe he actually heard from anyone. He likely fabricated it all as he is wont to do. He is desperate to be involved and relevant and has outright lied multiple times, so of course people are questioning the veracity of the claims. Such a sad case of mental illness gone unchecked; it really is sad.

Rumor: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to close in August?

Hana Sharif out as Artistic Director at Arena Stage

I spit out my water when I read that statement. Was he trying to come off as less than bright? https://www.notus.org/metro/arena-stage-dc-hana-sharif

Extreme spending (more will come out, but it’s big ugly) against all advice or wisdom including on expensive hotels and trips for her and her staff (the ones she liked). Poor treatment of staff she didn’t like where half or more have left or been pushed out. Treating production members like unintelligent workers rather than the artisans and craftspeople they are. Those are just a few. I heard she’s been under investigation on and off over the last two years and lawyers have been involved.

Interesting but welcome. Sharif’s departure should not be surprising to anyone familiar with the internal reality (and horror) of her tenure. Arena Stage saw extraordinary staff turnover, persistent instability, and a leadership culture that left many people exhausted, confused and demoralized. She was left completely unchecked by the board or anyone else. This was not occurring in a vacuum either; her prior institution in St. Louis later faced a $2.5 million budget
