With the recent announcement of Paddington transferring from the West End I was curious if any other shows would be coming to Broadway from “across the pond” ?

Would love to see Hercules, Devil Wears Prada and the Chaka Khan musical!

I don't believe any of those listed would transfer. Elton would sooner push for a Billy Elliot revival over a Prada transfer methinks.

They've achieved the best case scenario with Prada. The show is creatively bankrupt, but it's had a very respectable run in London. I doubt they'd risk a Broadway transfer when it would likely end in a very expensive reality check.

The UK versions of Karate Kid & 13 Going on 30 are both trying out in Toronto this fall/winter with Broadway dreams.

I think we’ll still in a place for quite a while where (for a lot of reasons) we will be getting a ton of shows imported from London. I just got back yesterday and saw a ton of stuff - some much more successful than others. But of the things I saw, what I think could do well here are “1536” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”. This JCS is still the best production of the show I’ve ever seen done and I’m really surprised it hasn’t landed at a Broadway house yet. It’s just as thrilling as it was when I last saw it at the Barbican, pre Covid and I can’t wait to see it again with their rotating cast they have at The Palladium.

“1536” is a play that I missed at the Almeida but I’m thrilled I got to see it at its new theater (the excruciatingly uncomfortable Ambassadors). The play focuses on a group of three women during the time of imprisonment/execution of Anne Boleyn. Spoken in modern dialogue, I felt the play did more to compare and contrast women’s roles in society from the past to the present, than almost anything else I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a brilliant play.

We were unable to see 1536 on our London visit - as by the time we knew when we were going to London, tickets are few and 1536 seemingly was the least expensive ticket! But, everyone I know that saw it raved and said it was brilliant. Transfer to St. Ann' Warehouse?

(We saw Oh Mary with Catherine Tate, Operation Mincemeat (2d time), The Producers, Equus, the new adaptation of Cyrano and Arcadia).

Prada Broadway is not happening. They are very aware it would get crucified there. It will run a bit longer in Europe, and then they’ll inflict ultimate upon Europe and possibly Australia who are always looking for shows.

PRADA could do well on the road with subscription markets and guarantees, given the title and "from Elton John and the director of Kinky Boots!". Would not need a star.

Skip Broadway, then license it after it does 100 weeks on the road and let every summer regional take a stab at it.

I just came back from London too and 1536 really blew me away. I can see it doing well on Broadway if it transfers.

There’s a few British dramas I’d like to see. Til the stars come down, The Years, 1536, The Motive and the Cue. I would like to see My Neighbor Totoro, Standing at the Sky’s Edge

Remember when everyone thought TOP HOT was a guarantee to transfer.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Stewart Lane & Bonnie Comley were attempting to lead-produce a Broadway transfer of the *original* TOP HAT for a few years.

Given the financial failure of ON THE TOWN, BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, AFTER MIDNIGHT, and DAMES AT SEA in that timeframe, plus the high bar set by AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, that was probably a wise decision.

Top Hat was on the West End in 2012 and there was a separate Top Hat stage adaptation that got workshopped back in 2014.

I actually had a ticket to this and let it go to waste after I snagged a ticket to see Luke Treadaway in Curious Incident. One of my best decisions ever. Luke gave one of the most remarkable performances I’ve ever seen.

Bet you see BENJAMIN BUTTON transfer to Bway. It was good in that indie -small musical that could- kind of way. I really loved it and hope audiences here understand the approach. THE PRODUCERS was also wonderful and imagine it could do well on Broadway. Not only held up, but was funnier and darker than I remember. Also, weirdly, it make me cry when Max sings about his friendship with Leo Bloom. Mel Brooks is no slouch, he is a brilliant writer. HAROLD FRY was a big no for me. Not strong enough. PRADA? Very commercial fluff, but the crowd was dressed to the nines and they all had a great time. Critics would kill it here, but still could happen because it would tour well in the states. Not sure RENT is ready for a come back here, but it is very buzzy in London at the moment.

BENJAMIN BUTTON transferring after the Public run is all but guaranteed. Same with THE HEART. But those transfers might be risky for this season going up against PADDINGTON and WARRIORS. And then there are likely transfers like BASURA waiting in the wings.

Also hoping for a 1536 transfer. Hope it skips Broadway altogether and plays St. Ann's or BAM. it's better than Broadway. Commercial producers don't deserve some shows - love with the good ones bypass their reach.
