EVERY BRILLIANT THING Reviews

not sure if you all know it, but there was a taping in New York City around 12 years ago of the original staging with Jonny Donahoe, the co-author, for HBO. You can find it under HBO Documentaries and I think on YouTube as well. It runs an hour and is quite charming, although I can see how Radcliffe probably kicked it up a notch or 6 with his innate charisma and star power.

GIANT Reviews

I too found Lithgow's performance to be quite extraordinary and found the play reasonably successful in its text despite all of the criticisms that I have heard here....many of which I agree with. But what really drove me crazy was the set! What really was the justification for setting the play in a home that was under such renovation that it appeared uninhabitable! It was not only needlessly unattractive to look at but seemed illogical as a habitable home. I kept wondering as I

THE LOST BOYS Reviews

I find that TDF tickets follow no pattern whatsoever. It's about where are there holes to fill in the house and far in the rear Mezzanine or Balcony is given out when the house is pretty full. I had 2nd row Mezz on the side for Lost Boys, 7th row orchestra side for Schmigadoon (Both terrific seats). I've had less stellar locations for other shows however. It's the luck of the draw but always well worth the price.

Beaches reviews

I think the producers have gotten an influx of cash in hope of creating the essence of success as a means to carry this show forward. They have TV spots (I've seen them) and the hope that there will be a handful of Tony noms. When you bring a show outside of New York, it's only a few shows that the audience knows are a true success. You can market much with the air of success and I think they are hopeful that out there where people are hungry for a Broadw

THE LOST BOYS Previews

Caught this on Thursday night and I too was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The production was exciting, the score did feel redundant but the power ballad energy kept everything moving forward. Yes, the second act does veer into YA comedy (and that opening of Act Two Dracula crap certainly established where we were going but was totally unnecessary.) If you check out the film on Google, it is listed as a comedy horror genre, whatever that might be. All in all, there was a palpable ex

CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Previews

Last Tuesday we had Whoopie!! The whole judge bit feels kinda lame to me as they're escorted out to make way for the royal entrance of Andre and never to return again.

DEATH OF A SALESMAN 2026 Previews

I believe in the Vulture interview with the cast and director, it is referred to as a 1964 Chevy Malibu which in itself tells us that we are in for a very different look at Salesman. The end of the war that is referred to in the script now becomes about Vietnam, which clearly has an impact on Biff and Happy. Come to think about it, as the draft ended in 1969, wouldn't these boys be drafted in the early 60's? I guess sometimes a new concept can just go so far when one doesn't

DEATH OF A SALESMAN 2026 Previews

Saw this last week and clearly was impressed and engaged having seen quite a few productions of the piece. The set was intriguing. I guess when you're told that you get the Winter Garden for a basic kitchen sink drama one tries to blow out the walls and rethink it. Since so much of Salesman is a memory play it makes sense to take it out of the limitations of a standard kitchen. I don't recall ever seeing the automobile that Willy uses but having the show open with the entrance of a mi

I saw this production last night. I've been a fan since last Summer after seeing this at PAC. I found it to be one of the most creative rethinking of a classic musical in 'memory' pun intended:) Last night, however, I found the production to be more chaotic and harder to follow than I remembered. PAC was a unique space and I found the production capitalized on the size. I found last night to feel constrained as if they wanted to keep the original show and squee

TDF down?

I'm trying to logon to check availabilities and this keeps popping up. Any thoughts?  Uggghhh!

Saw this last night and liked the play which made me feel uncomfortable quite often. Yes, that was the point indeed. Can someone help me understand the choice for this ugly ass set that doesn't do anything to support the actors or the play? I've tried to rationalize it but I keep coming up empty.

HIGH SPIRITS at Encores!

I enjoyed this considerably mostly because It's a title that I thought I'd never see staged. Much to enjoy if you enter a Time Machine and return to 1964. I did have trouble with the ending because Blythe Spirit does not end that way. There he is left being tormented by both of the ghosts which is a funny ending and offers much room for physical comedy and special effects to end the show on a high note. Was this the actual ending of the musical or was this tinkering by the director? I

General seating question. The extreme sides in orchestra are all listed as "restricted view" They're quite inexpensive actually. Has anyone had experience with the level of obstruction from that location?

OEDIPUS Previews

Back from tonight's performance and I found the evening to be quite satisfying. Unless you missed High School English you know the parameters of the original plot so it was exciting to see how they created a modern day adaptation. It was a slow burn but as the plot builds and the clock ticks on (in this case literally:) the crescendo is riveting. You can see why it needs to be played without an intermission. It was great to see Mark Strong returning to Broadway since A view From

LITTLE BEAR RIDGE ROAD Previews

I was there with my partner tonight and we both felt greatly rewarded. As others have said, it is indeed a small play with a minimal set but a play about the many levels of isolation and emotional paralysis really doesn't need more. This was beautifully and delicately executed  which had us laughing and ultimately crying as the evening reached its cathartic ending. I think the great reviews it received in Chicago will be matched here.

When I opened the program to the titl

Cats: The Jellicle Ball to Broadway

Cream Puff said: "Who cares about ballroom? This will bomb on broadway"

Without any snark as I haven't really followed any of your comments as some others have, I found the production the most successful reimagining of a classic musical, one that I never really liked. One can never predict the success of a show. If someone told me about a musical exploring the love life of robots in South Korea......................yet here we are.

How Bad Will the Kennedy Center Honors Be

I assume everyone is thinking "What stage performer would associate themselves with this production?" What artist with any sense of dignity would consider being onstage with this insult to the arts? I suspect that we will see relatively unknown young talented artists who can't really turn down an appearance on a nationally televised show. I think as the shape of the show and the casting comes into focus this thread will be longer than the TDF thread that runs into trip

DEAD OUTLAW Previews

Saw this tonight and had mixed feelings about it. I, as most other posters can see this working better in a more intimate space where it originated. I sat 4th row center mezz and the Longacre has a terrible rake with many heads in your way. I also think that the staging and lighting design, which is primarily focused on the band, has a large chunk of the book scenes played either far left or right in the dark with pools of light. The combination of the dark lighting design play

GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS 2025 Previews

Or a simpler explanation might be that if this production gets good notices and is a hit at the box office how genius would it be to recast with a new artistic perspective with an existing physical production in place at a theatre that needs a continuing tenant. Since it will be part of next season might this be a catalyst to push for a new Tony award for a replacement cast, something that has been talked about for years. Sounds kinda brilliant actually.

THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY Previews

I was there last night and I thought it to be an extraordinary evening. If you think of it strictly in theatrical terms one might have some issues but it really is a hybrid of video and theatre. Actually, the staging forces you to look at the various screens more than the single performer. It is truly a hybrid of video and live performance where the video work is really the focus of the evening. Of course, Snook is as extraordinary as has been reported but if you go into this prepared to witn
