"In May 2008 she plans to star in a new David Mamet musical, 'A Waitress in Yellowstone,' at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles."

Wow. Now THAT'S what I call a heads up!
Thanks
And apparently Mamet plans on writing the book, lyrics, and music. Which should be very interesting.
I'll try and find the interview from a few months ago when he talked about it.
ETA: Q. What's on the agenda for you next?
A. I have a book coming out in January called Bambi vs. Godzilla, a nonfiction book about the movie business. Then I'm doing a musical with Patti LuPone in Los Angeles in the spring, and then I'll do a couple of movies, if it amuses God to spare me a little while longer.
For the musical, I'm doing everything. The lyrics and even the music. If I can find the bobbin for my sewing machine, I'm even going to sew the frocks. I want to do the whole damn thing!

This is great news. Waitress in Yellowstone was supposed to play the Kirk Douglas Theatre last season, but they moved it to next spring for one reason or another. I didn't know Patti was attached. The theatre is pretty small. I would never have guessed that she would be there.

Ahhh! When do tickets go on sale?
Mamet can write music?
I was one of the few people who saw Patti LuPone on Broadway in another Mamet offering called "The Water Engine" which ran for about three weeks there following its Off-Broadway transfer.
I know Mamet has written lyrics, but I don't think he's ever written music.
I'm so jealous of those who cam see this, I'm so curious as to how it's gonna turn out.
Oh, please, I wouldn't put it past you to magically end up in LA for that weekend.
I'm all nipply!
Add me to the list of those who will be magically appearing in LA
I found a page with ticketing information and a very interesting description of the show.
Always tell the truth.
And don’t feed the bears.
A magical musical fable, filled with sage advice on everything from telling the truth to feeding bears!
Winnie and her son Doug are planning a long-anticipated trip to Yellowstone National Park. But when an unlikely suspect does her an injustice, their trip is diverted and Winnie ends up on a fantastical journey to Yellowstone where she meets a woodsman who grants wishes.
Written (including music and lyrics!) by Pulitzer Prize winner and master wordsmith David Mamet.

Very cool. Could this mean a new original role for Patti on Bway??
That article also mentions a possible Gypsy transfer. I really hope that happens.
Well, that's another thing, I thought Gypsy was supposed to go to London Spring of 2008. Has that just completely fallen through or is Patti doing London before or after A Waitress in Yellowstone?

LuPone says she would love to see WONDERFUL TOWN at Ravinia. Could she be hinting she wants to play Ruth? I love LuPone to death. But isn't she entirely too old for Ruth, even in a concert setting?
She and Donna are about the same age and Donna only played in about 3 years ago.

Actually Donna is 9 years younger than Patti.
I am very excited that Patti is making her way back to the West Coast. I was very excited to see her in "Rise and Fall of Mahagony," at the LA Opera, so I am equally excited to see her in this show as well!
Really? Wow. I stand totally corrected. Thank you, Franz.

Got my Kirk Douglas Season Tickets last week. I'm so excited!! I wasn't able to catch 'Rise and Fall...' last year. This is gonna be wonderful!!
"sew the frocks"
Is Mamet a Brit now?
I'd love to see his costume renderings.

His wife, Rebecca Pidgeon, is British, so maybe it's rubbed off on him.
Also, in case anyone's interested, "The Waitress in Yellowstone" was originally written as a straight play, and has been published in the collection "Five Television Plays." I guess the new version will have songs added.

It looks like this show isn't happening anymore and they seem to have replaced its slot with a different Mamet play. Too bad...I was really looking forward to this.
