Thanks, we are 2.5 blocks away. just hoping the winds don't change too much. we are up wind now. The kitties are a little freaked out. smoke is starting down the street. We have friends that work at both restaurants that were destroyed, hoping all are safe. Sad day in the neighborhood.
5 buildings are now involved.
Joe's Pub cancelled shows for this evening due to air quality.

Apt filling with smoke. Not good. Looking into hotels now.
PLEASE FIND A PLACE! After living on John Street on 9-11 and being told it was ok to go home that the aire was fine, then finding out it wasn't years later and having to join the health registry, it would have been better to find a place to stay for a month. I hope that the people in Pomme Frites and Sushi Park were able to get out in time. Does anyone know on which floor the explosion happened?

The report I heard said it was downstairs in the Pomme Frite building.
I do hope they managed to escape! Man I was soon addicted to Pomme Frites when my studio was on Christie Street.
The entire infrastrucutre of neighborhoods like this are in such bad shape. It is a wonder things like this don't happen more often.
B&H Dairy survived but how will they get thru this mess financially.
I'll go buy 10 orders of Matzoh Brei to go.

Had tickets to a show tonight, just returned home. The rain took care of the smoke coming this way. We left an air purifier working, no smoke, little noticeable smell. Will leave it running tonight, Need to do laundry, clothes smell.
The nice woman next to us at the show tonight said one of her co-workers lives on St. Marks in a building that backs up on to one of the collapsed buildings was not allowed back in to her house. They fear that building may collapse. My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy.

Hats off to the Standard Hotel on Bowery, They are offering a free 3 night stay if you lived in one of the affected buildings.
Good for the Standard! I just can't imagine one day having your apartment, and the next day you're living in the gym of a school, having lost everything. I'm feeling so grateful.
My thought are with all concerned. Terrible. I hear there are some critical injuries. I just hope nobody loses their life.

The latest on the local news is that there are 2 more confirmed missing and 6 suspected missing.
Reports say that 19 are injured, and 4 critically.
Reports are saying there are 6 unaccounted for. No missing persons reports have been filed for yet.
Latest on NY1 tv- two unaccounted for, 22 injured.
Whew, that is much better then the six reported earlier!
yes it is! they interviewed family members of both men, and they're all holding out hope. This whole thing is so very sad. Human error, it seems.
