That's a pretty solid set list.  "Joan of Arc / Samurai" and "Latin / Gypsy" themes are so expected.  I'm interested to see what the "Rockabilly / Tokyo" and "Party / Flapper" sections are like.  Given her crazy good back catalogue, I am a touch puzzled by the inclusion of "Candy Shop", an album track from Hard Candy and, unless I'm mistaken, not a particularly beloved song.  Also, there's a Joan of Arc section and she's not singing "Joan of Arc"??  Easily one of her best songs in years, too.  That seems odd.

My one major hope for that setlist is that she gives us a pretty straightforward (and complete) rendition of "Vogue".  It's her finest moment ever and I hate when she obscures all the qualities that made the song such a massive success - like she did on the Sticky and Sweet tour.  I thought the MDNA tour version of "Vogue" was a  wonderful update that didn't betray the spirit of the original... well...except for leaving off the last 1/3 of the bloody song.

Namo I think about 500 seats left in each arena is pretty good. When do you think her tickets sold out in minutes? Initial tickets always do as these did, but then they release more blocks. People were able to buy tickets on the day for the past 3 or 4 tours, it's no different.

And  do the looking to the past is a new one for you to dig at ( well done) so it's a problem she's performing some hits on the tour? Yeah coz that never happens with any artist including her ever.

horsetears, I agree with Candy Shop (she seems to love it, the fans don't) very strange.

"Nearly sold out" is super-terrif for a gal whose shows once sold out three minutes after they went on sale."

Honestly, let's allow some slack in time from those days. She's been on the scene since 1984 ish. After thirty years, it's not unreasonable to expect the slowER sales. Damn good record, she's got. (pun intended).

No I think it's GREAT she changed her policy. She has stated repeatedly she's only interested in performing her new stuff.  Good for her, giving something to the people who pay so much or who pay so little to the resale outlets who are taking a loss on their already-purchased tickets.

Drowned World sold out in an impressive instant.

Yeah, it is strange.  It worked fine as an opener for the Sticky & Sweet tour - it made sense there.  But literally every non Rebel Heart song on the setlist is a former single/hit song except for Candy Shop.  I mean, if she was going to do an album track from a prior LP, there are so many better songs to have picked.

So which songs do we think she's going to ruin by competently playing the guitar?

See I quite like her guitar ones (but I'm a fan of any guitar based music since I'm a huge Green Day fan as well) but I think a fee in the Spanish section will be guitar, maybe Ghosttown as well.

Really???  I didn't think there was anyone aside from Madonna's guitar teacher who enjoyed her miscarriages of "rock".  Honestly, watching her bastardize one of her classic dance/pop songs with a few competently strummed chords again would be like watching Jimmy Page learning a hip hop dance routine for "Whole Lotta Love".  Sure, he could dutifully learn the steps, but it wouldn't be a fit.

Namo I'm glad you used Drowned World as an example because I purchased tickets for the Barcelona gig on the day and also Earls Court in London just a couple of days before.

And she never just does her old stuff, hits are always in, but she tours to promote the album, like ALL artists do so they are always album heavy (plenty from her latest album are inc on this tour). You are no longer even clutching at straws in your odd negativity.

HorseTears, don't get me wrong , some of them I hate, but I loved her on guitar on I Don't Give A (she sounded great) same with a few of the American Life tracks on previous tours. Hung Up on the guitar was horrid though, same with Material Girl.

great teaser of the opening vid to the tour.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KgY1EaWwHKw

Serious honest to god aesthetic question all kidding aside about those photos.

What is "great" about them?  (I know that's one of your two words, the other is "fine," but what's great?)

Okay, so I'm in my 20s, and I wouldn't call myself a Madonna fan. I just think she's before my time. But, on a whim, I bought a ticket to see her at Madison Sq. Garden. I've been listening to Rebel Heart, and I rather like it. I mean, I prefer my divas to be able to belt (Kelly Clarkson), but I'm excited to see the Legend in concert on Wednesday.

Made the mistake of checking out the "Vogue" performance on YT.  It's treated like an afterthought and inserted as as brief bridge, if you will during "Holy Water" and the "Vogue" excerpt is performed like a dirge.  Ugh.  Why does she insist of robbing so much of her past music of its joyfulness?

HorseTears, sorry but I thought the Holy Water/Vogue performance was perfect. Vogue is done on EVERY tour and pretty much played as a straight untouched track on most of those tours, I was thrilled with it's treatment on this tour.

Namo do me a favour, go and play with the traffic, or get laid. Either one is FINE as long as it stops you acting like a mean spirited nasty middle aged B***h. That would be GREAT.

S&D - it might sound like I'm nitpicking, but...

A. "Vogue" is not done on every tour.  It was not done on Drowned World, nor on Confessions.

B. The song is her finest moment and a substantial part of its success is due to the brilliant (and pretty damn timeless) original production and the glamorous, iconic imagery of the David Fincher video.

C. I thought her MDNA / Superbowl version of the song did a nice job of gently updating the production while staying true to the spirit and sound of the original.  Unfortunately she didn't even perform the full song then.   The Sticky & Sweet mashup with 4 Minutes was a national disgrace.  The only tour version that got it 100% right since the early 90s was Reinvention.

D. I wish she DID perform the song on every tour.  It feels like a glaring absence when it isn't on the setlist.  Sinatra always sang "New York, New York", Kylie always sings "Can't Get You Out of My Head", Grace always sings "Slave to the Rhythm".  Some songs are too big to ignore.

I kinda prefer the MDNA version.

HorseTears, sandd is unable to tolerate anything he thinks is a criticism. Humor him. Madonna does Vogue on every date of every tour. And it's great.

I am curious to hear that she is smiling and having fun on this tour, as that has always been my criticism of her live shows, that they seemed rehearsed within an inch of their lives, and she had locked into what she wanted to do, but we never got to feel her enjoying herself or the moment. Which is a strange disconnect seeing how much the crowd loves her... that is why I always liked that one-off performance she did for charity with Gogol Bordello, and they seemed to keep her out of her comfort zone the whole time.

I first/last saw her on Drowned World, which I liked, but that lack of connection sort of turned me off seeing her since then...

HorseTears, it ain't nit picking, I was wrong, she has missed it off a couple of tours ( my mistake). I totally get what your saying but I think it's just a matter of personal taste on this one. Vogue is obviously a song you love so I see why you would want the full version, at least we have a lot of performances of Vogue right back to the Blonde Ambittion tour, songs like Rescue Me and Take a Bow ain't even had a showing yet ;-(

i have to say when it comes to Vogue I agree with Erik I preferred the MDNA version. People will always be disappointed that she didn't perform 'this song' or do 'that song' in full ( people seem annoyed she didn't do Like a Prayer, Hing Up or Ghosttown) but I for one am pretty happy with this set list (with the exception of bloody Candy Shop which I can't stand)

Erik, she does seem to be having way more fun on this one, the whole tone of the tour is. It's much less disciplined (or feels that way).

I saw Drowned World and the next two tours and the only thing she did at all three shows was flip off the audience.  Oh and also kind of begrudging renditions of Holiday.

I too think it's interesting that Madonna does not have any of that old school showbiz ethos.  On the contrary, she WANTS to let you see her sweat.  She wants you to note and comment on the hard work she's doing.  In that way, her shows are more influenced by fitness classes of all types than the "make it look easy" school of the big show performers who came before her.

"but we never got to feel her enjoying herself or the moment. "

That's because she couldn't drop the attitude if her life depended on it. And that's why she can't act.

Any reports of what time the concert actually starts?  Do we have to wait until 10pm again?
