We're not talking about a label-paid CD signing where, yes, it's common for the signee to only sign what the label is paying to hype that day. (Not to mention that the record store would rather the guests buy the CD that day, thus generating revenue themselves from the event.)
This board sometimes reminds me of a conspiracy theorists website..... too funny..
Yes, as having worked for a major label.... YES, it does matter that an artist would sign copies of another label's cd- be it a broadway show cd or not-- its strictly prohibited in their contract with the label. Kristin is not under contract with Universal/Decca, she just happens to appear on one of their produced CD's. She is under contract with Sony and must follow her contract with them.
She has signed some cd's (I know because I have one) but she will not do so in a public setting or to most strangers as it could jeopordize her Sony recording contract. (You never know when that person handing you a CD to sign is actually a Sony employee)....

.. which would explain her missing the CD signing.... no she is NOT a stuck up diva as some jerks would like to say...
She is not stuck up at all and believe me, she was very upset that "fans" thought so for her missing the cd signing. It was nothing of her doing. Bring a program, a playbill, she will be happy to sign it for you..... just respect that she has a professional life outside of the theatre and she has to play by their rules as well.

Hogwash. I know you speak with authority what with your obligatory "as having worked" statement, but unless you can link us to an example of even one such contract that any artist has signed and that is reproduced on the web, it's highly doubtful.
When people are under contract to a label for pop cds and then they take part in a soundtrack or cast recording, the get a _____ appears courtesy of _____ liner note. If the conglomerates that run the labels were THAT draconian, they wouldn't let the artist sing on the cast/soundtrack recordings in the first place (this actually used to happen in the 50s). Nowadays, with only four acts selling enough cds to satisfy the conglomerates, labels see anything that makes a potential buyer a "fan" of the artist and possible purchaser of the solo cds as a good thing.
Still, the imagery you create of Sony employees trying to entrap Kristin by asking her to sign a Wicked cd is HILARIOUS. As if her solo cds have ever generated enough income to pay even one minimum wage worker to do that cloak and dagger scenario.

EXACTLY. People always want to find an excuse to trash performers.... it's quiet sad really. I have nothing but respect for Cheno.
I want to pick her up and stick her in my pocket..... she would fit too!
Finding Namo: the comment about sony employees was made tongue in cheek- it was sarcasm. lighten up.
Why don't you go down to the theatre one night and ask Kristin for yourself.....

No thanks very much. I won't be going anywhere near that theater again while that show is still running. Unless there's a "Cash Rebate Night With Proof of Purchase."
That says it all right there....
So if I sent her a SASE to the theatre requesting a signed pic, on December 16th of 2003 its not gonna come back to me? Or is there still a chance?

she can't sign the CDs

Then she should follow Prince's lead and start writing SLAVE on her cheek.
When I waited for her outside the stage door she declined to sign any of the "Wicked" CD's but she was happy to sign the new Incubus and Beyonce CDs (since they are on the Sony label).
I will always treasure my autograph....
To Mamamia Sammy,
You got me lookin' so crazy in love!

i went a few weeks ago and met her and she signed autographs to me and my 3 friends and was SOOOOOO sweet about it....we didnt meet her at the stage door and she said the reason she isnt going out the stage door latley is bc she is worried about getting sick to quote her:
"I feel bad not going out the stage, but its only becasue I am worried about my vocal chords. I know they are mad at me but what are ya gonna do, right?"
As someone who used to work at a record label, I can tell you that there are sometimes issues with artist signing cds from other labels. However this is not always the case. I obviously don't know Kristin's deal, but, if they granted her permission to appear on the album, it is very unlikely that Sony would really forbid her from signing it. Again though--it could be true, so I tend to give her the benefit of the doubt.
But that has nothing to do with her not coming out. It might be because of the cold, her mood, whatever, but it is not because of that. She can DEFINITELY sign playbills!

My point exactly.
