Matt_G has a confession to make. He has never seen SWEENEY TODD. Is that bad?
Its a tie between Ragtime and Once On This Island...and i've never seen Sweeney Todd either!!! YIKES! Updated On: 8/18/04 at 12:01 PM

If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
bobbysworld, you and I can both run and hide from Priest together.
Not "bad", Matt...Just another opportunity! Sweeney Todd is very good and a lot of fun, as long as you enjoy dark humor. And, you have about the wittiest sense of humor that I've seen on the boards, so I think you'd like it!
my favorite musical would have to be rent.

not icluding wicked i would have to say TMM and Hairspray.
edit - It's a tie. GYPSY and JAMES JOYCE'S THE DEAD.
I'll refrain from this season
Hairspray & Urinetown
Matt - You should check out the video of the OBC of Sweeney. It is a well constructed musical and has some pretty good music. It is refreshing to see a dark musical done so well...
Oh, I already own it. It's in the stack of hundreds of DVD's I have yet to watch.

Les Mis, I guess. I don't know, anything really dark and depressing suits me just fine.
I would have to say either Once on this Island or Rent with Bare creeping up quite quickly! :)
And raises hand to admit that I've never seen Sweeney Todd either.
Matt and Bobby. Why? Please, for the sake of all that is pure and holy, go rent/buy the DVD(s) and/or CD(s). Please.
Need I answer...."But you see the trouble with poet is how do you know it's deceased? Try the Priest."
Thoroughly Modern Mille...big surprise right!
This is tough, I'll say Hairspray or Urinetown.
The lead roles of the Sweeney OBC are almost too creepily well cast! The lyrics are some of Sondheim's best - and A Little Priest puts every broadway lyricist to shame! Do yourself a favor, pop the DVD in and enjoy...
Hate to be picky.
But BT, when you said "You should check out the video of the OBC of Sweeney"
You meant the tour cast. The video is of the tour production. Which is better, because I feel Hearn's Sweeney is superior to Cariou's. And, yes, A LITTLE PRIEST puts every lyricist to shame

How can anyone pick just one? This is agonizing *twists arms...* Sweeney Todd, I guess. But there's A Little Night Music, and Sunday in the Park, and...
Nine is my favorite musical as well, and it was only this year that I made that decision. It has everything I want in it: a twisted plot, an incredible score, and complex characters.
Les Mis, with RENT close behind it.
