I know its been turned into an opera but "Angels in America". I just adore the play and dont want it touched. But I haven't seen the opera, so maybe I would like it who knows.
I have to say that The Crucible would make an excellent musical if done well.
I'd say that Death of A Salesman would not make a good musical. I don't think it sings.

Oy.
Our Town, and I agree with whoever said The Children's Hour.

Me and my friend were asked to add two songs for a local production of The Crucible. It was reviewed as "one of the Top 5 greatest productions of Arthur Miller's play *ever* to be staged".

I disagree about Our Town. I think, if done right, it could be quite charming as a musical.
"Our Town" has already been turned into a musical: "Grover's Corners" by Schmidt and Jones (of "Fantasticks" fame). Beautiful piece.
Three Days of Rain...ugh it would be AWFUL.
I'll see your Death of a Salesman, and raise you one Long Day's Journey Into Night.
Hahahaha. Take Me Out.
Dracula....oh wait...sratch that.
Ok its a toss up between Equus and The Miracle Worker....omg i can see it now....The Wa-Wa Song.
I'll raise your "Long Days Journey" and go all in with "The Matchmaker". SH*T. I lost again!
Death of a Salesman- the musical!
It's become a light-hearted musical comedy romp through the caustic idea of the American dream. Nathan Lane plays Willy, Rosie is his wife, Matthew Broderick) is Biff (playing him as neurotic and impish because that's all he can do), and Stokes is Happy. The score is composed by Mel Brooks, with direction and choreography by none other than Stro (think of the possibilites!! lots of props to dance with!!).
"Attention MUST be Paid!" would that be a ballad, an anthem or a dream ballet?
Loving it...
"The Blonde in the Thunderbird."
The "Blonde" should NEVER have happened...
What was it? Play, musical or ego driven T-Bird. Poor darling, nothing like telling your life story and nobody finds it entertaining. She's so sweet and charming and none of it worked...
How do you get to Broadway? Getting money to rent the theatre! (Same goes for Carnegie Hall)
Sorry, Chrissy. We still love you!

Hamlet is a musical. It's called THE LION KING.

I think I'd find it hard to musicalize Tennessee Williams, because his plays put so much out there. It's hard to think of a way to enlarge his scenes with music, though it'd be interesting to try.
Williams is one of my favorite playwrights. Funny to see "Cat" as a musical. The plural form has already been done.
Actually, besides the opera (and the Simpsons), there have been attempts at Streetcar. Great song called "Something Cool" was supposedly written for a version of the show. Could be a myth.

The Skin of Our Teeth has already been turned into the musical OVER AND OVER.
I think I mentioned on another thread that having seen the Lunts in THE VISIT and heard the musical version starring Chita Rivera, I think that making a musical of THE VISIT is a bad idea, even if it's already been done
