Just saw an excellent college production of FALSETTOS: Now there is a love story - Marvin & Whizzer, Trina and Marvin, Mendel and Trina, the lesbians from next store. Plus som,e achingly beautiful songs about love: The Games I Play, I Nver Wanted to Love You, Four Unlikely Lovers and the final What Would I do?
Beautiful stuff.
I also think PASSION is a rich (and disturbing) tale of love and obsession that resonates deeply with those who will take the time and patience to let it.
CAROUSEL's love story has always moved me. ("I loved you Julie...know that I loved you!") So does CAMELOT..Guenevere's "I Loved You Once in Silence" is a beautiful and rather unknown song.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Michel Legrand's THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG...'If it takes forever I will wait for you...'.

frontrowcentre2....I am with you. "Carousel" and "Camelot" have to to be my favorites....such passion, heartbreak and tragedy...really...a great love story needs a bit of that angst. I also love "Passion" and "West Side Story"...again for the same reasons.

The Last 5 Years - Someone said earlier that it doesn't count as a love story because its so depressing. But love doesn't always end happily. You can love someone and it just doesn't end up working out. Its painfully true. Thats why L5Y is so good.
West Side Story - my all time favorite. Its beautiful.
Passion - another beautiful one.

Oh, gosh, how to choose...?
Carousel ("Know how much I loved you!")
The Last Five Years ("I will never be complete, I will never be alive, I will never change the world until... I do.")
Kiss of the Spider Woman ("Everything changed when I met you. You changed my life somehow! Everything changed when I met you. I find I walk in Technicolor now...")
Parade ("All the days gone by to never show I love you so...")
Rent ("Thank God this moment's not the last!")
West Side Story ("We'll find a new way of living. We'll find a way of forgiving.")
So many great shows, so many great love stories...

I don't think I, personally, would classify L5Y as a love story, so I'm going with My Fair Lady. I could never put into words how much I love that musical!
