I hope that we get transfer news soon. This production needs to be seen again.
Still hoping that we'll hear something soon.
Same. It's been very quiet. I feel like if a Broadway transfer were off we'd at least hear something about a possible recording. This leads me to believe that a transfer is still in discussions (not the best reasoning, I know :P).
Starting to get worried.....
Roundabout's email representative today told me there would still be one off broadway and one broadway spring show for this season, they just must be announced, and they hope to be soon. I hope this is the broadway one!!
I truly hope it's THE VISIT! It's absolutely perfect for Roundabout. Where could it play though?
It is my understanding from someone close to the production that Roundabout has already passed on this, but that there is at least one commercial producer determined to get the musical on in Spring 2015.
Well that's sh*tty of Roundabout, especially given what Kander & Ebb's CABARET has done for them.
I couldn't agree more.
It's not even just that they owe it to Kander & Ebb IMO - it just seems like a good business decision for them. A prestigious new Kander & Ebb musical is exactly what the Roundabout need and subscribers probably want. They haven't mounted a successful new musical production in such a long time. I hope they have something really exciting on their plate that makes passing up this opportunity worth it. Somehow, I doubt it.
Maybe they think it would cannibalise Cabaret sales. I don't know.
Good luck to them. The show is really not that good-and Chita winning best actress in a musical is the sole award it will take. The show just is poorly written and there was no need to make it a musical in the first place.
I want this show to come to broadway only because of Chita!!! Heres hoping!
I've just thought maybe the reason the Roundabout didn't take it up is simply because of scheduling difficulties. They don't have a lot of availability this season. Beautiful has the Sondheim, Cabaret has Studio 54, and American AIrlines has 20th Century.
A rumour or suggestion on ATC was that THE VISIT was thinking a Winter opening in American Airlines with the Roundabout before 20th Century, but due to the limited time available between shows they could have maybe had a 4 week run there, which isn't long.
I actually think that Cabaret will close after Emma Stone's run in the show as the grosses for the show have slowed down, so it might go into Studio 54 right after Cabaret closes.
dreaming, that's your opinion. I was blown away by the show twice at WTF. it's certainly not for everyone, but it was right up my alley. Chita's restrained (yet powerful) performance deserves to be seen on Broadway.
I've said it before: If Roundabout can produce absolute SH*T (IMO) like The People in the Picture, THE VISIT should be a given.

Fantod, thats what i was thinking, but Studio 54 has Cabaret until March 29 at least. It might even extend again. Can it go into another theatre maybe?
ljay-I expected to love this-it has the hallmarks of a show I'd like a LOT in fact: Small, dark and difficult material. It just was not my thing. I am glad I saw it at Williamstown and should it come to Broadway I'll give it one more shot. But I think they should wait for Roundabout to take it (which according to another poster above they have refused to do). The reviews weren't that good, either so I can imagine that it's hard to scare up investors.
I hope at the very least they record an album with the WTF cast. It's an excellent score.

That's not happening. Cabaret extended until March, past when they have Emma. The grosses have slowed because every show is slow in September and October.

I saw this at the Signature in 2008 and again in Williamstown in 2014. I loved it both times. Although there was a bit of time between both visits (pun intended) I did notice some growth in a positive direction in all aspects even in Chita's performance. Loved the set much more in Williamstown. I honestly believe this show has a lot of potential on Broadway and it is exactly what we need...a smashing new American musical!
I saw Chita at Birdland last week. I spoke to her briefly to tell her how much I enjoyed The Visit. Her comment was "say your prayers."
finally some news. now I'm getting excited.

Seems like something the Public could get behind. Why doesn't the Public produce on Broadway like LCT or some of the others? I guess it's an off-Broadway house. But still. Seems like they could back it.
I'm just so ready for Broadway to see Chita's stunning performance. She could certainly give Kelli O'Hara some sturdy competition, although, this season certainly feels like Kelli's time.
