I love me a good flop musical... Here's just a few of my favorites:

THE LITLLE MERMAID
BIG
SMILE
CARRIE
TABOO
LEADER OF THE PACK
IS THERE LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL
DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES

If I had to pick a top flop .... I would go with CARRIE. I actually do see potential there. Not that I don't see potential in the others, its just my favorite.

"Every Sondheim show besides the 2005 Sweeney revival."

? The 05 Sweeney revival is not the only Sondheim production that has recouped...

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

9 to 5
Toxic Avenger-Is that considered a flop? I have no clue how long it ran or how well it did.

The original merrily we roll along, by far my favorite Sondheim musical, can't understand why it flopped so hard...

The 2003 Gypsy revival was a flop, right? If so, that's definitely my pick.

THE WOMAN IN WHITE --

*Sweeping romantic score and gothic storyline
*Probable TONY nods for Maria Friedman and Michael Ball
*The computerized sets were cool ( especially the on-coming train The Best Flop you've seen)

I guess my favorite "flop" was DEAR WORLD. I really loved it.

A close second would be SARAVA.

My favorite was The Play What I Wrote with Hamish McColl and Sean Foley. I assume it was a flop, it wasn't around very long. Laughed the whole show. The special guest was Eric McCormack.

My second favorite was a remake of Golden Boy with Valerie Simpson which I saw out of town but didn't make it to Broadway.

For me it was Xanadu, I thought the play was 90 minutes of fun, action and sheer enjoyment, sure do wish I could have seen it a second time before it closed
