I loved that addition! It's really adds both to the song as well as the characterization.
Having not seen the show, and therefore basing my opinion solely on the many clips I have seen, I remain unimpressed with Douglas Hodge. Kelsey looks like he's giving a much more fully realized performance.
I am a big fan of La Cage though and would love another recording though.
This just happens to be the highest quality You Tube excerpt I have ever seen. It brought back the very happy memories of LA CAGE which stands out as a terrific "feel good" musical. The OBCR holds no such happy memories for me. So, bring on a new recording!
"That part's been in the show for years, hasn't it?"
I didn't realize that. My knowledge of the score is based on the OBCR. Now that you mention it, it probably has though. It seems like we would have heard about Jerry Herman making revisions had he done it recently.
That second part wasn't in any production I've ever seen or done.
I liked it though. Nice counter point.

Jerry Herman added Georges' counterpoint during "With Anne on my Arm" for the 2004 Broadway revival.
It should have been preserved on disc when that production should have been recorded. Hopefully, we will get it on disc with a recording of the current revival.
