We are supposed to be flying in Friday and have tickets for next weekend; I have never had this Sandy situation happen before, so I am wondering if anyone knows if refunds will be available? Beyond frustrated!
Shows next weekend should be fine. Flights should be back to normal by then. Don't worry about next weekend.
That is, unless this snowstorm post-Sandy becomes something monumental.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I am flying in on Friday also. It depends on what part of USA you live. I live in Florida, so I think I will be find. After landfall, direction of storm may alter.
Next weekend, the forecast for New York looks beautiful. It will be FINE. I understand out-of-towners' concerns, but NYC, Bloomberg, et al. are just making things sound scary so they can say "Well, we told you..." should folks complain afterwards if there's some damage. It'll rain, it'll be windy, but we'll all be a-okay. Trying to keep a positive front here.
I wouldn't worry. Likely by mid-week, all will be business as usual.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
i have received phone calls from family in san francisco and seattle asking if i'm OK -- apparently, the news is making this storm look like armageddon.
we're going to get unprecedented flooding from rain and storm surge, but that's the real risk. (excluding from this projection, of course, the morons who deliberately put themselves in harm's way.)
it is a very serious threat, and the worst clearly is yet to come, but i agree the city will be back on its feet by the weekend.
Seriously, the news is making this seem like the world is ending. Haven't there been hurricanes before? The NOAA isn't even projecting "Tropical Storms conditions possible/likely" on their website for my section of the metro area. Just a lot of rain and wind.
people hear "hurricane" and think "wind". direct wind damage isn't much of a threat here, but the collateral consequences of the wind and heavy rain -- flooding and storm surge -- are going to be VERY serious. if the subways flood, it could take weeks to repair and restore service. ditto (though days, not weeks) for the tunnels connecting manhattan to new jersey and long island.
the consequences of this storm are going to be very serious before it's all over, and the precautions are all appropriate. the hype and drama are tedious, i agree, but the reality underlying it is for real.
Gymman, Are you still scheduled to fly in on Friday? Tonight, United extended the cancellations to November 2. So I rescheduled my trip for November 14-17. Usually, I buy advanced show tickets, but planning to do general rush for three shows and Broadwaybox for the remaining. I lost a show slot, though. But at least I got to reschedule with no extra cost.
Walked up to Motague Street this afternoon. 50% of the businesses were open and the restaurants and cafes were teaming with people off from work. New Yorkers are a resiiliant lot! You should be fine next weekend! Shows go back up tomorrow. There might be some subways down due to repair but we will be well on the way to normal.
Those Blocked: SueStorm. N2N Nate. Good riddence to stupid! Rad-Z, shill begone!
