He wears nice glasses and doesn't smell bad.

He often smells like the booze he consumes too much of.

I just noticed that my printer is out of toner.

Also, should I bother making a Starbucks run in this weather?

He often has interesting guests on Theater Talk, but there have been a couple of show lately with authors wanting to push their books, and those episodes were pretty lame. Especially considering he devoted an entire show to each. Last week's show was good, although I can't remember who the guest was.

Taz, I always took you for a Dunkin kind of person.

I have never really liked Dunkin', AKarp.

I find their donuts to always seem stale.

Their coffee is ok, but given the choice I'd opt for da 'Bucks.

I wonder which one Riedel prefers.

Well then let's ask him:

Mike, what is in that "coffee" mug of yours?

Several years ago, I was at a screening of, Show Business: The Road to Broadway, which had a talk back led by Michael Riedel. I had always wanted to ask him, why he did what he did and I saw this as my opportunity.

After the discussion I approached him. I knew that what I was about to ask, could be interpreted as rude and off-putting and so I was unsure if I'd actually get some insight - if he'd open up to me.

He did. I was upfront and honest and asked him if he 1) was aware of how hated he was; and b) why he did it. Basically, he told me that if not him, someone else would take on this role and that the money was excellent. He said that before him there has been a huge history of gossip columnists and he listed names like Hedda Hopper and such. He did realize how much vitriol went with his job and he answered with, "thats why I have a therapist".

I have to say, I didn't like him anymore after talking - and I still think he's vile - but I was impressed that he didn't run away from my questions, the conversation that ensued, and I believed he answered honestly.

Michael Riedel. I hope your therapy is going well. Mostly, I hope that you are offsetting your bad karma with some good deeds somewhere else in your world.

Mike, were you devastated when the Emmy's snubbed you for your brilliant work in SMASH?

When will we see a Riedel show like Mike Tyson & William Shatner did one man on a stage?

What about Riedel The Musical?

I suggest Julie Taymor to direct. She would do wonders.

Revive Spidey and have Riedel as The Green Goblin.

No, he's a brand new villain for Spider-Man 3.0: A parasite-carrying blood-sucking mosquito depositing the larvae of an elephantiasis-causing filarial worm.

The problem with Dunkin Donuts is that they went to central bakeries to supply donuts to their stores, all but guaranteeing you'll never get a really fresh donut there. Back in the day, when each store made their own, they rued.

Although I take issues with some of his columns I find him to be very entertaining and I do look forward to reading every week... I actually also had a chance to interview him 2 years ago and he was very gracious and I enjoyed my time talking to him.. He seems to be afflicted with a common ailment many suffer from - anti Wildhorn virus.
