I actually am fully Jewish with Holocaust survivors in my family, Jordan, and I take profound and deep offense to those who think the Holocaust is an acceptable comparison to what's happening in America today. It is deeply disturbing to me that you and others think it's acceptable.

i think we can all agree, that American Troops arent going to round up citizens and put them on trains until at least after the inaugration, so we have time to find safe spaces.
I would presume that anyone making the comparisons to National Socialism aren't suggesting that America currently resembles Germany in the 1940s, moreover that they are fearful it's on a timeline similar to that which faced Germany in 1932. Considering the current political environment created by Trump and sections within the Republican Party thrives on scaremonging, fear, dehumanising entire sections of society and waging a war that justifies stripping them of their human rights and representation I don't think it's a baseless fear tbh.
When non secular schools and corporate interests are allowed to pervert the education system, and the PEOTUS seems determined to shout down any voices which challenge his own (and incite mob violence in he process) it's scary to think that the US could be one (Reichstag fire) act of "terrorism" away from signing away even more freedoms than it already did after 9/11. There may not be death camps in the future but it's likely there WILL be detention centre, mass deportations and a tight grip on the "free press".
I don't know if the direct or implied comparisons of Trump to Hitler are right nor not. Certainly I despise and fear him and his supporters.
But... if those comparisons are accurate, then we are faced with some uncomfortable corollaries. Do we just let the next Hitler take control of thousands of nuclear weapons, because elections have consequences? Are we willing to risk everything to stop him? If you had a time machine, what would you tell Hitler's opponents to do after he obtained power by democratic means, but before he murdered millions of people?
I guess I'm inclined to think Trump is not enough like Hitler to trigger any extraordinary measures to stop his rise to power. But maybe I'm being like that ostrich posted earlier in the thread.
And, for the record, as a Jew, I ordinarily eschew Holocaust comparisons, because I believe that every genocide should be treated sui generis.
So I don't believe Donald Trump should be compared to Hitler. Trump's lust for power is more narcissistic than anything else, and the danger is more that Trump will capitulate to Putin than that Trump will rule the US with an iron fist. Therefore, Trump is comparable to Benito Mussolini, but not Hitler.
Nevertheless, I think every Jew has a moral obligation to oppose Trump, in every way possible, for the reasons outlined by Rabbi Jill Jacobs in this Washington Post op-ed:
"Even if Jews were not personally threatened as Jews, it would still be imperative for us to call upon all of the communal strength we have and all of the institutions we have fought to create to oppose threats to other people. This is an obligation that comes from our tradition. In the Torah, one of God’s first commands to the Jewish people after our liberation from slavery is to protect those who are most vulnerable, as we, too, know the experience of being strangers.
Our history has taught us that autocracy does not arrive all at once, but through the slow erosion of individual liberties and the pitting of one group against another. We cannot look away or hope for the best when politicians promise to assault our civil liberties and threaten human rights."
The obvious truth is that there will be many opportunities for impeachment. Basically, Donald Trump commits crimes and misdemeanors on a daily basis that create conflicts of interest of unprecedented magnitude. Like this:
"The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Monday condemned the “hateful rhetoric” espoused at a white nationalist conference that took place in Washington, D.C., over the weekend.
“The Holocaust did not begin with killing; it began with words,” the museum warned in a statement. “The Museum calls on all American citizens, our religious and civic leaders, and the leadership of all branches of government to confront racist thinking and divisive hateful speech.”
Josh Marshall explains why "conflict of interest" is the wrong term. What's actually about to happen is that in Trump's residency we will see "a public official who is by design using their public office for profit."

Remember the day you got your facts wrong? Like today for instance. I didn't bond with anyone over anything on this board. I also did not hate Hillary. There were a lot of things I did not like about her but I never out and out hated her.
I also did not have my head firmly shoved up her ass like so many on here where she could do no wrong.

Wrong you're the deranged one who has an unhealthy obsession with me. But that's okay, I'm used to it already. I'll just add your name to the top of the list of people on this board who are obsessed with me.
At the rate you're going you're on your way to becoming my fan club president. LMAO!!!
This thread is to discuss the coming impeachment of Donald J. Trump.
This article from a British paper argues that Trump could be impeached on Day One. I think it will take longer--until the conservative wing of the GOP gets so fed up with his corruption that they join with the Democrats in Articles of Impeachment.
