Here is my thought...I would assume that a lot of the people who gave to the kickstarter campaign were theatre fans. Not in the buisness or rich but people who just want the film to be made. And to support the arts. Some may not understand all of the red tape that has to be gone through to get rights, etc. They may never have seen a show in NYC but, like I did for years, devoured/devour everything theatre. (This site included) I watched that cd several times before my life took a turn and I ended up in NYC. It was part of my "connection" and dream to be here and a part of it all even if I just got see shows.
I was friends with him on Facebook for a few years and he avoided any conversation about the film (that I saw). The film is the reason I joined his page thinking there would be updates. There were none and I unfriended him (gasp!)
It has been qiite a long time that this film has been promised. And maybe he is truly working hard to get it done. This morning, for some reason, my mimd went to Stephen King and how long he had to wait to re-make THE SHINING. A book he wrote but had to wait all those years to get the rights to film his version. And he got it done.
But it is what it is. I have actually forgotten about it and only think about it when it pops up here. I just hope it gets finished.
I am glad it gets brought up on occasion We must hold people accountable . . It’s frustrating because I am sure he reads this and it’s ignored. It’s a slap in the face for those that invested.
My condolences to his friends and family. I always admired his commitment to preserving the memories and careers of some of the greatest stars of the Golden Age.
Rick was one of my best friends and working with him on these films has been a highlight of my life. I’m devestated but grateful for everything he gave the theater community.
Rick leaves behind a wonderful legacy of scholarship, important documentation, and joyous enthusiasm. It was wonderful to communicate with him now and then, and I'm terribly sorry to hear this. Jordan, my condolences to you, and to his countless friends and loved ones all over the country.
