The Sweet Charity website loaded the 10 finalist videos for their "Win a chance to dance on Broadway" contest. I watched all ten, and some are...ok. Others? Oh my...
Are you the one in the grey sweats? You looked fine to me..the one who turns from man to woman halfway through was amusing, and someone outside in a purple/blue getup was kinds off.
Good luck!
edit...you're not the man/woman one, are you?

OMG WHY ARE THEY ALL SO BAD??? If I would have known about this and know how much these people would suck I totally would have entered! DANG!
(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."
A comment on the girls, though: some of the girls are pretty good, but some... wow. Like the one with stripping out of the tutu... wow. I did think that most of the girls that were good either danced like they were at a strip club, or like they were dancing in pom squad (not that that's a bad thing, it was just interesting to me).
All I have to say is Jef had better win. He was at least creative. Those clips make me sob tears of sorrow until I scratch my eyes until they bleed and it makes me want to run out on the street and teach people what Fosse should look like. I found it very painful yet very comical. I cannot believe that this was the best of the group (with the exception of Jef of course).

No, not all of them are bad. But I do want to know how a few of them wound up as finalists.... and I especially want to know how the person who's in first place wound up IN first place.

As I said, Jef is my favorite. Most original, definitely. Most amusing, definitely. Does he have a chance? I hope so.
I, too, thought a lot of the girls were showing off high kicks they learned in cheerleading. I took into account some nervousness, and a bit of "look what I can do!", but still...

Well in terms of original, I still say Gayla takes the cake. "Hernando's Hideaway" in front of a Spanish adobe complete with Mexican statue to the side. Inspired!
Jef is just a little too creepy for my tastes. He looks like one of those dancers in the movie of Victor/Victoria with the masks on the back of their heads.
