So is Mel Brooks really working on this? I hope so, it was such a funny movie. Maybe they could use the patented "black and white" technique like Pegasus in Dallas does.
Who would you like to see in the musical?
Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) - Kevin Kline
The Monster (Peter Boyle) - Brad Oscar
Igor (Marty Feldman) - Norbert Leo Butz
Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn) - Megan Mullally
Inga (Teri Garr) - Sheri Rene Scott
Frau Blucher (Cloris Leachman) - Andrea Martin
Inspector (Kenneth Mars) - Marc Kudish
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/9/05
There have already been rumors going around for this casting;
Frederick - Matthew Broderick
Igor - Roger Bart
Elizabeth - Kristin Chenoweth
Music and Lyrics: Mel Brooks
"Putting on the Ritz" by Irving Berlin
Directed and Choreographed by Susan Stroman
So it would be a 3-way reunion in that casting:
Matthew Broderick and Roger Bart (The Producers and The Stepford Wives)
Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth (The Music Man)
Kristin Chenoweth and Roger Bart (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever)

Roger needs to be a part of this in some way, shape or form.
Heck - he just needs to come back to Broadway soon!
i hope those are just rumors - Broderick and Cheno have as much stage presence as a piece of wet newspaper. UGH! But Roger Bart would be FAB-U-LOUS in this, maybe not as Igor, but still.
Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) - Kevin Kline
The Monster (Peter Boyle) - Christopher Sieber (it would be so hard to make him look bad)
Igor (Marty Feldman) - Kevin Cahoon
Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn) - Kristin Chenoweth
Inga (Teri Garr) - Sheri Rene Scott
Frau Blucher (Cloris Leachman) - Andrea Martin
Inspector (Kenneth Mars) - Marc Kudish
"The Monster (Peter Boyle) - Christopher Sieber (it would be so hard to make him look bad)"
BwayBaby18 - so true, so VERY true
Brad Garrett as the monster. He wouldn't even need lifts in his boots!
And the word is Schwanstucker
"i bet he has a huge svansticker"
woof! ask kevin burrows, he knows! i bet chris has made him sing "ah sweet mystery of life" more than once.
"Fantasies come true" lol i fear i am getting off topic
Chris Sieber needs to be in this in some way, shape, or form. I absolutely love that guy. I wouldn't want him to be the monster though because Brad Garret would kick so much A$$ as the monster. Maybe Sieber as Igor? But as for the main role, Kevin Kline would rock, but I severely doubt he'll be in it.
AHH! this is my favorite movie! If only Madeliene Kahn were still alive, she could be Elizabeth!
Is this just a rumor or are you serious? Because YF is my favorite Mel Brooks Movie, and I think it owuld be hysterical as a musical
It's pretty much a rumor. I know Mel Brooks has hinted that he wants to do this. As far as how far along he is, I don't know.

oooh this would be absolutely hysterical!
NOT a rumor. Meehan and Brooks have been at work on this for some time. They have 6-7 songs written and expect that the show will hit NYC within about 18 months.
Bart has been mentioned recently as Igor and Broderick in the lead, but there has been no further word on Cheno in recent news.
WOW!!! Now I'm really excited. I wonder who they put as the monster...Any Picks?
I love the movie Young Frankenstein too, but can't they think of a better actor to do the lead?

I agree with you, I like Broderick, but not for the lead. They need someone a little bit different, I think slightly quirkier.

This sounds like a truly funny piece of work, but I agree with South FL Marc, someone other than Broderick should be the lead. Bart would be a hoot as Igor, though. How about Kelli O'Hara as Inga? Agree with Andrea Martin as Frau Blucher! That would be priceless.
I think they should hire Harvey to do Frau Blucher. I have a mental image of him rasping out "YES. YES. Say it. He vas my... BOYFRIEND."
Ive always thought that Martin Short would be a good choice for Dr Frankenstein.
WOW! Harvey as Blucher just makes me start to have insane amounts of uncontrollable laughter. But even better I think, what about Harvey as the monster? I can see him Rasping "Puttin' on the Ritz". TEHEHE
Frankenstein is not a nebbish like Martin Short or Matthew Broderick, he is an eccentric - a little off but not off putting - no dorks please!
I agree Children&Art, it's Young Frankenstein not Young Frankennerd which is what Matthew Broderick would turn it into. Martin Short on the other hand is a little long in the tooth for the young part.
