Hey! I was looking at our theater district site, and there's a part where they ask which shows you would like to see. The list is made up of shows that are planning to tour. On that list, I saw "Sweeney Todd" and "Pajama Game" I just thought I would give you all a heads up.
I think every show that opens on Broadway considers doing a tour.
Just sayin'.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
--Aristotle
The Sweeney tour will be tough. either they'll have to find actors with the same abilities as the current Broadway cast, or they will have to find actors that can learn quickly, or reorchestrate the whole show.
And I'm not sure PJ game will sell that well on tour w/o the great B'way cast.
I checked with our VP of Programming and Sweeney Todd IS going on tour, but Pajama game is questionable (we may produce this show ourselves if there is strong interest).
Thank you for your feedback! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Pajama Game is closing on June 11th, period. the cast feels right, great choice of casting. Na d alot of Kathleen Marshal's co-wrokers/friends are in it. it sort of feels like a roundabout thing, you know? Sweeney might be cool...MAYBE.
"I'm thinking about how if you took the W in
answer, and the H in ghost, and the extra A in aardvark, and the T in listen, you could keep saying WHAT but no one would ever hear you because the whole word would be silent."

I would love it if this new version of Sweeney Todd would tour around the country. It could be a tough sell though. They could do a limited tour and just go to main cities and that's it. Either way here's to hoping...
"Isn't it strange that we spend most of our time learning to do what they put people in asylums for." - Jane Fonda on Acting
Ordway has mounted several large-scale productions in the past and will no doubt do so again. The theatre mounts, on a continual basis, smaller shows - normally housed in the McKnight space. But, in the past, the larger musicals are in the main hall. Seeing as Kevin McCollum, one of the lead producers of RENT and AVENUE Q, is (or was very recently) a head honcho @ Ordway, it's no surprise that numerous productions have been mounted by the theatre and the performance schedule is packed with fabulousness.
Special highlights of the upcoming year include the launch of BKLYN (so I can judge its' hideousness for myself), Tea At Five (with Kate Mulgrew), and Edward Scissorhands. If you live in the area, I highly recommend looking into a subscription.
If they do intend on mounting some original productions, I would love to see The Wiz and The Pajama Game done locally. We certainly have the talent for both (especially if they bring some folks over from Penumbra for the latter) and it would be nice to see these done in the midwest (after all, that is where they take place - well, for the beginning and end in the case of The Wiz).
Sweeney, on the other hand, is FAAAR too intimate of a show to play the Ordway - it would get swallowed up whole! I would love to see that at the Guthrie's new space or Jeune Leune. Now *that* would be the ideal locale.
Yeah, I think Sweeney will follow the same fate as like Avenue Q and Spelling Bee. It will only tour to smaller theaters. I know Sweeney would just get swallowed in some of the larger concert halls. If shows like Evita can't even fill the theater, I don't think this show would either. Its much better in an intimate space.
