Unfortunately, I don't think we're ever going to see a Tony opening like that ever again. It really is a shame.
On the other hand, Ms. Lansbury's 'Everything's Coming Up Roses' was magnificent!

Yeah, and the Tonys need to be held in a Broadway house again.
The only reason they've been moved to Radio City Music Hall is so the League of American Theaters and Producers can make $400 a ticket off tourists who love to get dressed up and sit in the nosebleeds.

This is what the Tony's are about. If anything should be opening the Tony's this year, it should be South Pacific or Gypsy. You know...two classic shows that have left a huge mark in theatre history?
"Light the candles! Get the ice out! Roll the rug up, it's today!"
I liked the year they did "One Night Only" with all the nominated shows.
Broadway Shows I've Seen: Hairspray, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors (2003), The Wedding Singer, Spamalot, Riverdance, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, Sweet Charity (revival), Drowsy Chaperone, The Lion King, Dreamgirls(2010 Tour).
Well, we simply must have the most revolutionary musical of our time open up the Tony's! It is only natural that The Lion King gets to open the show because it is obviously a much better choice. I mean, I'd much rather hear thirty-eight animals sing about life than to hear an iconic madwoman say "Sing Out Louise!".

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

I highly agree that this was a token to remember, but if the Tony's opened liked that ever again, we would lose viewers. Today's standard's it is consider to be too long, drags on and looses interest. I personally love the way it opened.
I also laughed, on how the lights moved like for three seconds and the audience was like on it's feet...how sad that we are not easily entertained like we use to be.

Agreed. "The Circle Of Life" is like a five minute song.
