Since we are all waiting for new shows to open.. I thought I post photos of Godspell~the production in 2006 from Papermill that would be revived on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theater. Also the revival will feature set design by David Korins (same designer who designed it at Papermill) I wonder if the Broadway Revival will have the same look? -J*

What is the hand on the bottom half of the logo supposed to mean?
I really like the set from the Papermill production but it's so weird to see Godspell on such a big stage. I felt the same way about the 2001 tour (picture below).
Ugh! I hope not! I'm not OVER the idea of Godspell set in a junkyard. It's been done so many times. I know Broadway isn't the place to take risks, so it'll probably look the same and have the same idea, but I think they should go the opposite extreme. Maybe put it in a ballroom, or something classier? I've never quite understood the story of Godspell (I mean, I get the Bible stuff), but where exactly are these people? Does the script mention anything specifically?

I reckon it's a reference to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Gary Indiana.
Just a guess, though.
Bump! What exactly is the "famous" face suppose to be that is used so often in the artwork?
Is it just me or it looks like ReNT w/o the sculpture?
christmas lights- check!
scaffoldings- check!

It also reminds me a little bit of the set for the original Two Gentlemen of Verona.
Godspell is about the formation of a community and a church service John-Michael Tebelak would have liked. :)

When I saw the show at the Papermill I thought it looked great. The set looked really good on stage. The cast was amazing so Im happy to hear some of the cast will be back!!!

Isn't it clear? He's got his finger up his s.
The Paper Mill production didn't take place in a junkyard. It was in an empty theater where the group gathers to get out of the rain. That's where they find the scaffolding and props.
I couldn't think of a single reason to sit through another production of Godspell again. Now, after seeing these pics, I have a lot of reasons not to.
Thanks.
