... being the only decent Webber show out there, and after the terrible 2000's revival, who would you like to see in it, and how would you like to see it staged.

I for one would vote for Drew Sarich as Judas, ans maybe Titus Burgess or Billy Porter as Jesus.

As Pilate Cheyenne Jackson.

I dont know who as marry.. Maybe Eden Esponosa.

What do you guys think?

Definitely Drew Sarich as Judas or Jesus, in my opinion. As for everyone else, I'm not sure.

Drew could play both parts at once, and I'd be happy

See, that's where the thread goes horribly wrong.

Um, you may not have liked the 2000 revival, but Tony Vincent was an awesome Judas.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I was actually very thrilled with the 2000 revival. Tony Vincent was wonderful. That is my Jesus Christ Superstar so I see no need for another revival that clashes with what, to me, was a perfect demonstration of what the show should be.

Why not Cheyenne as Jesus? He has KILLER high notes.

I'd like to see Mandy Gonzalez as Mary Magdelen. re: Lets dream of a Jesus Christ Superstar revival..

Wow, so him, Julian and all their kids have the same middle name????

I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

Since he is coming back any day now, why don't we wait for the real Jesus to play the role.

You couldn't get more "dream" casting than that.

Raul Esparza for Judas

His "Heaven on Their Minds" would be breathtaking.

I will not rest till I hear "Heaven on their minds" sung by Adam Pascal. I think he would be an insane Judas!

While Raul would be amazing my judas will always be tony vincent. actually not a revival but my dream cast for a one night only concert would be: vincent as Judas, Sarich as Jesus and Joanna Ampil as Mary (she is my fave)

My kids were pretty young when they saw this...when he walked on stage they all looked at me and said "Billy Idol?"

<> Isn't "Lloyd Webber" their last name?

Eric Kunze as Jesus and Natalie Toro as Mary. I saw them on tour, and they were stunning.

I'm a massive JCS fan. I saw the London production on tour in Dublin in 2000 (I think the tour was closer to the New York staging--though I know they were by the same director? I still find all this really confusing lol) and I liked it--I liked it more than not.

But I have my own theory about JCS that isn't very popular with other fans :P I think it never really works well on stage and probably wouldn't unless it was heavily changed (something I wouldn't trust ALW or Rice to do). It was written as a record and that's one reason it works so well as a record, and as a concert, and even in a film (which IMHO can follow a record with visuals better than stage). Evita also started as a record, but Hal Prince sat down with the boys and had them heavily change things before he was going to adapt it to stage--wisely. JCS never had that--another reason I think it's never had a *truly* iconic staging (though I would love to see evn clips from the truly over the top original Broadway spectacle).

Tony Vincent - a decent Judas, a MUCH better Simon - so let's keep him as that.
Glenn Carter - gag. CatsNY, I have to politely disagree. I thought the 2000 revival ruined the show.

If it was going to be revived, I'd want it revived properly. That is, I want a rock and roll band, and not some canned, polished sounding nonsense. Whoever pointed out that it was made as a record is absolutely right, I think the original production and film stuck to that nice, raw, rough, sound. Gale Edwards disneyfied it - gag.

Here is a theoretical and hypothetical cast.

Jesus - Drew Sarich. In the spirit of Ian Gillian, let's also get a rock singer in there. How about Justin Hawkins, lead singer of The Darkness?
Judas - Adam Pascal would be a nice choice. But I'd put Chey Jackson here as well. Actually, if you've never heard Roger Daltrey let loose on this role, you're missing out.
Mary - how are you going to play her? Is she going to a little rough, a little Janis Jopliny? I'd go with Natalie Toro. Are you going to play her sweet? - don't kill me, Laura Osnes.
Caiaphas - Norm Lewis
Pilate - Norm Lewis ... hey it's theoretical, he'd do great at both roles!
Simon -Tony Vincent
Herod - stunt cast it. Jack Black, Ben Vereen, Harvey Fierstein, Patti Lupone
Peter - Someone new and exciting.

I love your ideas for Jesus and Judas. To give Gale some credit--I've read most of the "Disneyfication" you describe was due to ALW's demands (certainly it was done more so to her Broadway production than to her original).

See, as much as I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Norm Lewis, I can see problems he'd have with Caiaphas and Pilate. As Caiaphas, would he be able to sing those ridiculous low notes and as Pilate would he be able to sing those high notes right before Superstar?

I'm still free to play Judas!

However, I would not go back to play Simon at this point in my career.
