Posted: 3/22/09 at 9:00pmIn shows like Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, and Shrek where there are split parts between kids, who gets to sing on the cast recording? Sorry if this has an obvious answer, but I've always wanted to know!

I know on some cast recordings, if there is a rotating cast and the people sing multiple songs, they divide the songs up among each person. La Boheme did this on their cast recording. Granted, they were larger roles.
I would assume for the cases you are describing it may be random. I have always wondered this as well.

That isn't the rule for anything. That is why all 3 Billy could be nominated as one, not just one, for the Tony, and the recording could have anyone, or both. There isn't a set "rule".

I was under the impression that for opening night they just go with the rotation and whoever is up on the rotation.
But, I thought that the producer chooses who will sing the role ont the cast recording.
Of course, I am talking about shows that have child actors.

Well you can't actually have the kids fight to the death, otherwise you would have to recast at least one.
Instead they let their mothers fight to the death over it.
