The super-smart people at fivethirtyeight.com have a roundtable on Republican efforts to dump Trump:

I agree with them that the Dump Trump movement is useless. The voters chose him, like it or not, and to subvert that is fundamentally wrong... and to try to do so will cause more problems than provide solutions (most notably is that there is still not a good alternative to Trump in the GOP).

Sidebar: this had been telegraphed for days, but Rubio officially announced his intent to seek reelection.

I know, but I hope it happens anyway.

Meanwhile, over at TPM, they're seeing an "epic disaster" for the Republican party nationwide.

I've donated before, and I will continue to give what I can to HRC, but for the first time this year, I am considering volunteering.  I live in NJ, which is likely safe for Clinton, but if PA appears to competitive as election day approaches, I may offer my services to help drive voters to the polls in PA.

Warren will be joining Clinton at a campaign event in Ohio next week.  Wonder when Obama and Clinton will reschedule their event.

HRC is giving an outstanding speech on the economy right now in NC.

A long, triumphant speech.  Well done.

Her speeches have been markedly better of late.  Not sure if it's new speechwriter(s), or if she's just finding her groove.  When she talks about the economy, you can hear the drift to the left to appeal to the progressives, but she seems very comfortable in this space.

Because she knows she'll never actually enact any of those progressive economic policies (following in her husband's footsteps). It's the reason many Wall Street tycoons and financial/banking goons continue to pour millions of dollars into her campaign, despite her threats that she'll apparently be breaking up big banks and jailing bankers.

Nah. You're just wrong. She will enact more reform than your little brain can imagine.

Nothing you say can change the fact that Hillary Clinton will be the most progressive president of your lifetime so far, the most progressive president since Franklin Roosevelt.

Go on, insult me, but nothing can alter that fact.

It cannot be a "fact" if you have no evidence to substantiate or back up this claim, or if it hasn't happened yet. That can be your opinion. It can be a forecast or projection. But it cannot be a "fact." I would ask you to point me to what legislation she either a.) proposed/presented or b.) voted for as Senator of New York that you would consider radically progressive. If you are so confident, show me her record. Allow that to speak for you.

According to Vanity Fair, Trump is looking to start his own TV network.

"Trump is indeed considering creating his own media business, built on the audience that has supported him thus far in his bid to become the next president of the United States."

Paula Poundstone's reaction on the June 18 Wait Wait Don't Tell Me podcast ("Who's Bill This Time" @ about the 6:40 mark):

Paula Poundstone: Oh, I hope so. […] I just… It’s like having… ’Ya know what? It’s like having a rebellious teen-aged son that you just hope will play basketball. ‘Ya know just something. …just an activity. ‘Ya know what I mean?
Peter Grosz: Something non-violent, won’t hurt others.
Tom Bodett: Right.
Paula Poundstone: Exactly…
Mo Rocca: That’s great! We’re gonna encourage it!
Paula Poundstone: Honestly, wouldn’t that be wonderful? “Donald, the American people and I have been talking… [laughter] …and we are so excited about your network. And we will support your network in any way we can.” Right? “And we’ll come to all your shows…”
Tom Bodett: “Now, just set down the party…”
Paula Poundstone: Right! “…just put the party down…”
Peter Grosz: Yeah!
Mo Rocca: [laughter]
Paula Poundstone: “…gently.”

Trump's campaign has always been a long con, and now it's becoming clear what his endgame is.  The bigger his crash & burn, the more money he'll make in the end.

The fact is that Hillary Clinton will be the most progressive president since Franklin Roosevelt. She will be more progressive than Obama was able to be, more progressive than her husband was able to be, more progressive than Jimmy Carter or LBJ or JFK or Harry Truman.

So demonize her in whatever manner you want, the reality is that progressives are getting their best opportunity with her, and only the pig-headed ones are stubbornly refusing to see it.

So your name-calling doesn't matter. She will still get elected and she will still pursue and achieve a progressive agenda, whether you admit you are wrong about her or not.

It's fun when you talk about name calling but then call people who disagree with you pig headed, crazy, misogynistic, stupid, or any of the other names you've used in multiple threads.

At this point, it's clear you have no interest in a rationale conversation, and I've asked you this question before and you never answered, but what in Hillary Clinton's record suggests that she will be "the most progressive president since Franklin Roosevelt"?

Who called her any names between when you wrote yesterday at 4:30pm and this morning at 10:42am? Erik is asking a good question, and I asked a perfectly reasonable question in my previous post. The fact that you cannot answer the questions is far more telling of your knowledge and understanding of the woman you adore and worship.

To be honest, I don't think I've EVER called Hillary Clinton any names. I've focused on her record.

The smart people at 538 have an interesting piece regarding the absence of ads bring run in PA by the Clinton campaign.  Electorally, PA is the 2nd largest 'battleground' state, after only FL. They infer the Clinton campaign considers PA to be safe, despite the current polls indicating it's very close.  Of course, they can always run ads there in the future, but it seems clear they're trying to define Clinton and Trump right now.

No.

No, no, no, no, no. NO.

I won't play that game that you and Liza want me to play: to tell you how her policies about women's rights and children's rights and gay rights and health care and environmental activism and unions--and, yes, even new proposals for curbing the powers of the banks--are progressive...just so that you can deny it. Nuh-uh. I won't play that game. (Even if I just sorta did...I still won't play that game. I won't mention her tax plan or her plan to raise estate taxes or implement the Buffett Rule or curb overseas tax shelters. I won't mention any of those, because you'll just shout them down, even if you know zilch about them.)

She IS AND WILL BE the most progressive president of our lifetimes and you people have to make a choice: either to see this as an incredibly fortuitous moment in history for the overall progressive agenda or to continue to believe the lies you currently believe, lies that were created by the Republicans in the 1990s and augmented during the primary campaigns of Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders. You can choose to go on parroting these lies, but is you who will lose--you and, potentially, the whole progressive movement.

Hillary is not corrupt. She is not Shillary or Billary or HiLIARy or any of the other more disgusting and misogynistic terms thrown at her. She is not "Republican Light." She is not a "neocon." She is not a warmonger. She had a voting record in the Senate that was 93 percent aligned with Bernie Sanders. She was the 11th most liberal member of the Senate while she was there. And don't get me started on the current vogue for the phrase "neoliberal," which is maybe the most cannibalistic epithet ever invented by the left in order to eat its own.

Is Hillary more interventionist than Bernie would be? Yes, but that does not make her a neocon. At the same time, she's also more adept at international diplomacy than he is--or than any other current politician, Democratic or Republican, is, for that matter. (Anyone in the world, possibly.)

But I won't say any of that to you, because what good what it do? As Sondheim wrote, "Oh, why bother? You'll just do what you do."

Meanwhile, it's almost the last midnight and we got work to do.

I think you're delusional.

Go to a public school in one of the areas of new york you probably never visit. Get to know the kids and teachers there. Take a look at what corporate education reform (sponsored by people like Clinton, Cuomo, and Booker) has done to public schools in those neighborhoods. And then come back and tell me how Hillary Clinton is going to be the most progressive president ever.

YOU yourself once said that neither major party in this country represents the working class. I guess the difference is you don't care.
