She was great as usual.  I've been in love for 8 years.  I'm proud of Bernie, and I felt bad for the crying kids who made it to the national convention floor, but it was a little funny, where's Berniebaby this AM?

It was unrealistic for reporters to stick their microphones in the faces of Sanders supporters immediately after his speech and ask them if they were with her.  These folks were his most ardent supporters, having devoted months of their lives to his campaign, and they had just watched him deliver a rousing speech.  My guess is that most would be with her by the end of the week, and just about all will be with her by November.  They need a little time.

Those folks are human beings who've lent a ton of sweat equity to a movement.  They're not machines.  Each person handles his or her outrage differently.  That's why I wish Trump would dial back his demagoguery before someone is killed.

Hopefully tensions will be defused so that there's no repeat of the 1968 DNC convention.

"Thank you Javero! you explained it much better than I did. When people feel cheated, feel like they have no voice, feel like Authority is against them, they protest. Like they did in the 1960s .I am surprised that some here who are all about Civil Rights find that so shocking.

It will be interesting to see how/if the Clinton campaign uses FLOTUS on the campaign trail.  She was already one of the most popular public figures in the country, and her stock will only rise after last night.

That was probably the most thrilling first night of a convention I have ever experienced.

To watch the party go from fractured to healed in one evening--though the inspiring speeches of Cory Booker and Michelle Obama, the pungent comedy of Sarah Silverman and Senator Al Franken, the healing balm of Paul Simon, the wisdom of Senator Elizabeth Warren, and the Zen-like acceptance (with a Brooklyn accent) of Senator Bernie Sanders--it was an object lesson in how adults accomplish conflict resolution.

All in one night!

For what it's worth, the folks at FiveThirtyEight say that the reports of disruption on the convention floor have been overreacted to by the media- and the booing seemed to be confined almost exclusively to members of the California delegation. Once the reality that Bernie is not, will not, and can not be the nominee today after the roll call vote sets in, it'll be fine.

The first day already provided more substance from more convincing, eloquent, and diverse speakers than the entirety of the RNC. Plus, the transcendent Michelle Obama giving an historic speech that will be hard to top (but Hillary will have to).

Wow! According to FiveThirtyEight's Now-cast ("who would win today"Clinton vs. Trump: The Path to Victory, Donald Trump has a 54.2% chance of securing the Presidency. That's scary.  https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/#now

Do we have any insight on who wrote (or, most likely, co-wrote) FLOTUS' speech?  Whoever it was deserves a raise.  And should maybe join the campaign officially.

This is the least accurate of their polls, but I assume you know that.  The Polls Only and Polls Plus models both show Clinton winning (one in a close election, one handily).

No, I didn't since I really do not follow polls or statistics. A friend shared an updated projection (went from Clinton at 52% last week to Trump at 54% this week) and I thought it was significant enough to share.

The polls will be in a state of flux for the next couple of weeks.  Trump got a bump, Clinton will probably get a bump, then things need to settle a bit.  And as the data builds up over time, and the election date approaches, 538's projections will firm up.  The biggest bumps after this week should be the debates.

The media has to tell a story with conflict. It's a rule that goes back to Aristotle.

But Day 1 of the convention was a journey from conflict to unity. The few Bernie-or-Busters who are left are all white, millennial whining babies who are becoming less and less relevant as the hours go by.

They will have one last group whine during the roll-call vote, and then it will be on to defeating Donald Trump.

The four hardcore Bernie supporters who I've seen interviewed were all female, only twp were white, and only two were young.  I'm not sure castigating Sanders supporters is the best way to promote unity.  As I recall, the hardcore PUMAs were slow to unite behind Obama in 2008.  Agreed that the media is making a meal out of this; they are a small but loud minority.

Petra, It was anything but chaos.  Granted, the opening segment including the gaveling in was a lil' awkward due to the partially media-induced tension in the air.  But, after that it was smooth sailing followed by a crescendo when Sanders took to the dais.  Yes, much of it was pageantry as one would expect at a party convention but it was good pageantry.  You missed a treat.

The Democrats have really excelled a pitching a big tent that extols patriotism, virtue, inclusiveness, and shared sacrifice across the spectrum.  When Bernie addressed that audience as "brothers and sisters", he meant it.  Perhaps we still have a few pain points to overcome as a young Republic, but the Dems clearly laid out their model for a path forward, based largely on unity and respect for all.

Regarding Hillary, I'm with her!

We are well aware you are "with her." You've exclaimed it a thousand times since the start of this thread. If anything, your continued insistence of support for HRC while completely disregarding any validity for Johnson & Weld, who are close to reaching the required 15% national average, only further reinforces my belief that you were never the genuine "card carrying Libertarian" you claimed to be. HRC may tick all the boxes for us socially but regardless of her centrism, she is in support of big government. No sincere Libertarian I know could ever support, and enthusiastically no less, such a horrendous notion.

Have you even registered to vote yet TROLL?

Again... you take the time to respond to my post with some immature, innocuous response, but fail to provide any substantive reasoning for backing a pro-big government candidate as a supposed "card carrying libertarian." If this is how you respond when someone questions your support of HRC, given your party's longstanding and well-documented contradictory stances on a variety of issues, I sense you're doing a great disservice to the very woman you plan to vote for. You do not convert or win over any undecideds by responding in this way. There is now no doubt in my mind that you were never a genuine Libertarian, as I once was some years ago (I am now an unaffiliated Centrist), to begin with. What a farce you are. What a trickster you are.

I don't give a rat's azz about your political bent nor your need to headband-splain.  Your only aim is to be the board's polemicist which is a euphemism for shaite-stirrer.
