Very good speech from Pres. Clinton tonight. Very interesting, as well, that he spent very little time talking about his own Presidency, which he'd be entitled to do, but instead full embraced his potential role as the spouse of the most powerful person in the country. I thought the way that he described Hillary's long history of advocacy for the under-served communities was absolutely brilliant.
For anyone who missed Hillary's short video appearance at the convention, here it is. The lead-in was perfection.

Let Me Remind You F*CKers Who I Am, an op-ed by Hillary Clinton

I can't imagine that was really her, was it?
I did enjoy ex-President Clintons speech. It really showed the real women behind the Hilary. Made her seem like a real person instead of the cartoon she is sometimes made to be.
I must say, and maybe I am alone on this board but I was offended they highlighted those women who kids were killed by Police, without having the families of Police Officers there as well. My Police friend and his friends are furious. I will hold off judgement that maybe they will have them there today. But if not, that is a clear message sent, and I am afraid it is not the one of building bridges and Love conquers all.

I don't think there's water on anyone's parade. It's unlikely anyone was misled by a piece posted on an account called "Hillary Clinton [Parody]".

I take that back.

This is staggering.
"Later in the news conference, when asked if he was really urging a foreign nation to hack into the private email server of Mrs. Clinton, or at least meddle in the nation’s elections, he dismissed the question. “That’s up to the president,” Mr. Trump said, before finally telling the female questioner to “be quiet — let the president talk to them.”"
"...the Republican presidential nominee refused to unequivocally call on Vladimir V. Putin, Russia’s president, to not meddle in the United States’ presidential election.
“I’m not going to tell Putin what to do,” Mr. Trump said. “Why should I tell Putin what to do?”"

Just to be clear, the police were not ignored last night. While the families of police officers may not have spoken, Pittsburgh police chief Cameron McLay spoke. But don't let that interfere with your outrage.
when did he speak? was it on stage? Was it highlighted on TV like the mothers were? Maybe pushed to back like Mayor Deblasio? I did not see a big ceremony or did not see anyone refer to him or any other police. Neither did anyone i know. It really disappointed me. If you do not think that sends a message to anyone who is not on far left, you are very naive. Nothing is done by accident. At either convention. Hopefully tonight they will correct that and have some on. I really do think she is smart enough to know that most people support police and law and order and will order it corrected

I knew I shouldn't have bothered.

You changed your post. Your previous post made me laugh. This one makes me laugh to because I know you don't mean it.
The networks pick the coverage so I can't speak to that and he did speak on the stage. The mothers of the movement got extensive coverage on TV - and they choose what they cover. Since they didn't alternate mothers of police killed with mothers of those killed by police, it appears that - for you - that ship has sailed. Too late to have the content/coverage be what you want. No way to fix that for you.

No ****, Liza.
Petra, not that you give a ****, but President Clinton also included remarks on keeping members of the African American community and police safe from violence in his speech. But, whatever, it's just a former President, his words don't matter. What matters is having some insanely angry, vitriolic, fear-based jingoism screamfest, right?
Disappointed in You Horse, I usually find you thoughtful and caring in your posts even if I disagree. Why must support for Police be about insanely angry, vitriolic, fear-based jingoism screamfest? I do not think you at all believe that. It is possible to honour Police with out that. Now they are getting clobbered for not supporting the police while having the women on stage. I dont think most fair minded people would have had a problem of them and widows of dead police on the stage together. or at least on stage at different times while honouring both groups. Most Americans want law and order. It leaves an opening for Oompa Loompa by ignoring it.
Petra - let's just be honest here. The right seeks to delegitimize and outright ignore the very real plight of oppressed and minority communities - especially African Americans. There's this ridiculous artificial balancing act that they require which insists that anyone who supports sensible gun control, addressing racial bias or stopping the violent oppression of African Americans is thereby anti-police. By that same token, every time a Republican mentions "blue lives" and protecting law enforcement and DOESN'T mention racial bias or the violent oppression of black people, we should assume that they are all 100% anti-black? Isn't that the kind of logic you're using?
And, no, you do not need to be wildly jingoistic to support the police. For instance, in the wake of the recent shootings, Hillary herself offered some nuanced, impassioned, balanced defenses of BOTH the African American community AND of police officers. Several of us posted about it in this thread.
HT, As you said Hilary HAS said that and it is why I expected that to be the case. I think the term Alllivesmatter says literally, that all lives. colors, sexes, etc do matter. Mrs Clinton has always been about Law and Order. Her and Bill have been criticized for the laws and policies he put in place and the high spike in prisoners during his term. So like I said earlier, I am hoping she has some widows and fatherless children of Police highlighted tonight. If for no reason other than it goes not give Oompa Loompa an opening to hit.
Several speakers at the convention have spoken to the importance of respecting police and the tragedies in Dallas and Baton Rouge. Inlcuding, as HT noted, former President Clinton and Eric Holder. It was referenced in the invocation that began todays session.
Also...thanks PJ. I love you too.

Petra? Again with the All Lives Matter? Here, maybe an explanation in comic form will help:
In case anyone doesn't know, you can watch the conventions (and future debates) on one or more of the C-Span channels. The coverage is totally complete from 4:00pm on or gavel to gavel. No inane banter; no commercials; they even include the classic TSOP music between speakers.
I know the timing's aren't exact or guaranteed, but we do know the approximate time Kaine, Biden and Obama are scheduled to speak tonight?
We could use a few more speeches like this; a little more outrage!
This is Martin O'Malley's speech at DNC tonight. (former MD Governor, former Baltimore Mayor, former Presidential Candidate)
