I gotta say, with further contemplation, this may have been a genius move by Hills - especially if she gets in front of the press more frequently now. This is the first thing they're going to be asking her about. Before emails, before the foundation.
Oh, stop with the pearl clutching! "Deplorable" was brilliant strategy. The quadra-syllabic insult is an SAT word, designed to fire up the college-educated base and annoy the yahoos.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia ARE deplorable.
By apologizing only for the "50%" of it and not for the use of word itself, she's opened up a dialogue: If saying that 50% of Trump's base is deplorable is an exaggeration, then what percent actually is? And is that okay with you?
And how rich that the Trump campaign has to whine that Hillary lobbed an insult, when he's running his entire campaign as a bad imitation of Triumph the Insult Dog.
What Trump is really upset about is that he had to have one of his campaign interns look it up.
It was a brilliant dog-whistle on Hillary's part: Do you want a president who praises Vladimir Putin or a president who calls racism deplorable?
Agreed. I thought this was deliberate and clever. She's far too guarded for any other explanation.

Think you missed my post directly above yours. Pearls are unclutched.
And, yeah, the comparisons to Mittens' 47% comment aren't apt. Mittens' 47% comment hurt him because it reinforced negative stereotypes about him. Hillary's 50% comment has done the exact opposite. If, even after her careful walkback, she's still in "trouble", she'll be in trouble for being too forthright and honest.
That is ****ing brilliant.
And Pneumonia-gate is in full swing. I briefly turned on CNN at 11:30pm and they were using their special 'Breaking News' bumpers even though it was, ya know, not breaking news. They've probably played video of Hills being helped to her car hundreds of times already. Utterly insane.
While she's resting and recuperating, I hope her team is actively developing something big and bold she can do/say when she's back on the trail. She's going to have to do or say something that's truly newsworthy or this stupid story is going to dominate coverage of her candidacy until the first debate.
Where's my landslide PJ? This is sad currently.
Landslides happen on Election Night. This is just politics.
Just bustin chops. She couldn't win, she either goes and hopes all is well, or she dosen't and risks the speculation. This can't get on fast enough for me.

The CNN coverage Sunday night was deplorable and biased and feeding into the Trumpians. I really fear for the future of this country!
Remember when people would denigrate CNN as "Clinton News Network"?

They very much still are, however they are desperate for ratings; Trump antics and Hillary health scares attract eyeballs. They're just following the numbers and catering to the viewership. Not saying it's right or wrong. Just stating a fact.

Great. Then go watch MSNBC and its daily viewership of 100,000. No one is forcing you to watch CNN.
Why? They're no better.
The entire American media got this wrong.

"Why? They're no better"
THAT'S the truth. I got home from work early today and made the mistake of tuning into MSNBC. They have been talking about HIllary Clinton's pnuemonia for two straight hours. It's ridiculous. And I'm sure we'll be hearing it for hours more until Trump says/tweets his next stupid/racist/misogynistic thing.
Meanwhile there are very serious issues facing this country and the world. Income inequality, climate change, the middle east, education, healthcare, etc etc. There are serious questions these candidates need to be asked. Instead I'm listening to a 45 minute debate about walking pneumonia.
This election is depressing.
Do Ideas Still Matter in the Year of Trump (and Clinton)?

"Right after his campaign started, Trump observed that, 'Fifty percent of the country doesn't want to do any work at all, and the other half of the country . . . is tired of carrying them.'" - Major Garrett, CBS This Morning.
We should email as many major outlets as we can, demanding investigative journalism into how Trump has handled his personal charitable foundation.

You must not watch CNN. Drew Griffith and his investigative team are doing extensive work on both foundations with their first report airing last night. The trouble is that Trump's charity is significantly smaller with a total of only about 1.3 million in assets while Clinton's is well over 150 million, making the investigation in Trump more difficult than Clinton.

For someone who claims to "ignore" me, you sure do you respond to me a lot!
With all the scrutiny given to the Clinton Foundation, it's about time someone did some legitimate investigation into the Trump Organization. Keep in mind, Trump has stated that if elected, his kids will run the organization AND have a hand in his administration.

HOW THE TRUMP ORGANIZATION'S FOREIGN BUSINESS TIES COULD UPEND U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY
"If Donald Trump is elected president, will he and his family permanently sever all connections to the Trump Organization, a sprawling business empire that has spread a secretive financial web across the world? Or will Trump instead choose to be the most conflicted president in American history, one whose business interests will constantly jeopardize the security of the United States?"
A close examination by Newsweek of the Trump Organization, including confidential interviews with business executives and some of its international partners, reveals an enterprise with deep ties to global financiers, foreign politicians and even criminals, although there is no evidence the Trump Organization has engaged in any illegal activities. It also reveals a web of contractual entanglements that could not be just canceled. If Trump moves into the White House and his family continues to receive any benefit from the company, during or even after his presidency, almost every foreign policy decision he makes will raise serious conflicts of interest and ethical quagmires."

^ This is the soundbite that even the simple should understand:
The Trump Organization is not like the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, the charitable enterprise that has been the subject of intense scrutiny about possible conflicts for the Democratic presidential nominee. There are allegations that Hillary Clinton bestowed benefits on contributors to the foundation in some sort of “pay to play” scandal when she was secretary of state, but that makes no sense because there was no “pay.” Money contributed to the foundation was publicly disclosed and went to charitable efforts, such as fighting neglected tropical diseases that infect as many as a billion people. The financials audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the global independent accounting company, and the foundation’s tax filings show that about 90 percent of the money it raised went to its charitable programs. (Trump surrogates have falsely claimed that it was only 10 percent and that the rest was used as a Clinton “slush fund.&rdquo No member of the Clinton family received any cash from the foundation, nor did it finance any political campaigns. In fact, like the Clintons, almost the entire board of directors works for free.
On the other hand, the Trump family rakes in untold millions of dollars from the Trump Organization every year.
Looks like Trump will not be discussing the results of his medical exam with Dr. Oz.

I hope that Newsweek piece has some legs and the media's interest in it doesn't simply vanish in 24 hours so that they can return to wall-to-wall emails and pneumonia coverage.
