What exactly defines a "protest vote"? Does voting for the candidate who best represents your values, even if that candidate is not a mainstream choice, constitute a protest vote?
To me, a protest vote means voting for someone you don't like to spite someone you really don't like. For instance, if I lived in Virginia, I'd probably vote for Clinton to harm Trump's chances of winning. That would be a protest vote against Trump, not an endorsement of Clinton. On the other hand, I plan to vote for Johnson (for reasons I've explained previously) as an affirmative choice, imperfect as he is.
They don't nail anything. And the writer fails to mention that Trump is no ordinary candidate. He's openly racist, courts the vote of white supremicists, incites violence, clueless, and a con man fascist who is completely unqualified for the job of President of the United States.
Unrelated: when did you get jacked, kdogg?!

" so it is not true that there was an uproar about Fallons interview and all these other late night hosts are left of center and very political? you can not deny that. Even the left of center NYTimes admits it. Oh and yes he does acknowledge Trump extremeist. I guess you didnt read the whole article
"Even the left of center NYTimes admits it."
No, Ross Douthat admits it. You saw "Opinion Pages" in bold letters at the top of the article right?
And he BARELY acknowldeges Trump is an extremist and goes on to compare him to Nixon and Reagan.
I plan to vote for Johnson
Which means you're electing Trump.
And, by the way, the lunatic Johnson wants to:
* eliminate environmental regulation
* do away with public schools, and
* dismantle Social Security and Medicare

"oh, I see, you need it spelled out in your exact terms.. And you ignored my question to you. the whole point of me posting. do you not agree that the hosts other than Fallon are Left and political? That is why there was the outrage about his interview.

And doesn't know what Aleppo is.

Over the past 3 years or so. :) Thanks for noticing!
I don't want to get into another me-against-everyone situation here, but a few comments:
PalJoey said: "Which means you're electing Trump."
No. Maryland, my home state, is not even remotely in play. As I implied in my post, if I lived in a swing state, I'd probably have to vote for Clinton to stop Trump. In Maryland, I don't see any reason not to vote for my preferred candidate.
And ErikJ972: "And doesn't know what Aleppo is."
I said he was imperfect! And while I don't mean to attack Clinton, my preferred response here is to point out that, not that long ago, she said that Libya was an example of "smart power at its best." (Not talking Benghazi conspiracy nonsense here, just the fact that US intervention certainly did not improve things in Libya.)
Don't know if this video has been posted here or not, but this is the most eloquent Laganja has ever been. I wasn't sure what to expect. "Drag Queens Drags Trump"
Kinda liking this:
http://savetheday.vote/
maybe it should be put out there more?
But kdogg, your protest vote for Gary Johnson is still a vote for a man who stands for these--do you?
* Gary Johnson wants to eliminate environmental regulation
* Gary Johnson wants to do away with public schools
* Gary Johnson wants to dismantle Social Security and Medicare
If you want to kill the environment and do away with public education and Social Security, I have lost any respect I might have had for you--or your jacked shoulders.
This is another example of someone with the balls to get it right. You shouldn't sacrifice your morals for tv ratings. Seth Meyers using the F word and blasts Trumpty Dumpty. This is from HufPo

Seth should have Samantha Bee on now.

To give a direct answer: maybe theoretically, in a very different kind of world. I don't support them at all as things to pursue now or in the foreseeable future.
I don't think Johnson could get any of these things done, or even that he'd really pursue them. He didn't go that kind of extreme when he was governor of New Mexico.
I do think he would be much less likely than the mainstream candidates to invade countries that haven't attacked the US, or to send assassination drones to kill Middle Eastern families, or to have the NSA spy on our communications, or to destroy the lives of people who dare to expose these evils. That's enough for me.
ETA: I should say that's enough to get me to choose him, in a non-swing state, as the best use of my vote. Obviously he's not getting elected.
I'm sorry, but I find that "non-swing state" argument a reprehensible cop-out. It was thinking like that that diminished the support for Al Gore and elected GWB. People like you and PapaLovesMambo can go to hell.
Kdogg is a good guy PJ, what's with you?
PalJoey said: "People like you and PapaLovesMambo can go to hell."
So anyone who's not voting for Clinton can go to hell? Is that really the kind of guy you are? If so, I'm the one who's disappointed after all these years. I'll give you a chance to backtrack if you like. :)
(Thanks, South Florida!)
Kdogg I agree with so much of what you say. I find most of Clinton's foreign policy stances deplorable. I WAS going to vote for Jill Stein since I live in NJ but then I dug a little deeper into her platform and realized it was kind of...wacky.
Trump is such a danger to the country that I do think it's important to go out and vote for Clinton even though I'm not a fan of hers. And then it will be my job, and everyone elses, to stay active and keep her accountable.
You seem like a smart guy...Gary Johnson doesn't.

Apparently, we shouldn’t bother worrying because someday the sun will encompass our whole planet.

He really needs to stop smoking marijuana before he gives these interviews.
So anyone who's not voting for Clinton can go to hell? Is that really the kind of guy you are?
At this point in the election, there are only two choices, Clinton and Trump, and any vote that isn't to defeat Trump is a vote to elect him.
So anyone not voting for Clinton is choosing to send the country to hell. And very likely sending the world to hell.
So if you refuse to face reality, if you are still whining about how Clinton is imperfect or Clinton is a liar or Clinton is a bitch or whatever sick derangement is still keeping you from voting for her AGAINST HIM, if you are still clinging onto your privileged, entitled third-party fantasy world, then--
Oh, what the F*CK do I care who the F*CK you vote for?
YOU obviously don't care about anybody but yourself and you bullSH*T libertarian "ideals"...you don't care about black people, you don't care about women, you don't care about Mexicans or Muslims or gay people...you don't care about NATO or the Supreme Court or peace in the world or the environment...
YOU JUST CARE ABOUT YOUR LIBERTARIAN BULLSH*T.
VOTE FOR WHOEVER THE F*CK YOU WANT BUT WE WILL NEVER--EVER--FORGIVE YOU FOR THROWING AWAY YOUR VOTE IF HE WINS.
Honestly PJ, (and I say this with love) your attitude towards people who disagree with you on Hillary Cllinton is pretty rotten. And it's a lousy way to convince people who are on the fence to vote for Hillary Clinton. You're probably doing more harm than good. Belitttling people an telling them they can "go to hell" is not a effective way to sway them to your side.
I've spent much of the summer convincing Sanders supporters to vote for Hillary. You're going about it the wrong way.
I don't cafe anymore. Let the kdoggs eat Trump.
No! This is NOT the election to give up on! My candiate, who I felt very passionately about, lost and I haven't given up. I'm just saying that treating everyone who is not supporting Clinton like they are evil isn't going to change anyone's mind. And I think you COULD change people's mind..If this Sanders supporter can do it anyone can!
