For once, I'm going to have to agree with Phyllis. They have no right to be offended, I'm not going to strain myself from doing anything in public because of them, especially if it's something that a heterosexual couple wouldn't be gawked at for.

I don't see how this is even remotely turning into an attack on bisexuals. If someone is going to contribute to a discussion of gay affection in pubic and play the "I'm bisexual" card (as 2373 did), I don't think it's out of line to question how his or her said bisexuality is a factor here.

I just live my life. I don't want to make any statements or offend anyone.

Most people are simply trying to live their lives. If I'm making a statement when I'm showing affection to my boyfriend in public it's because heterosexualist society has decided that I'm making a statement.

And there's a difference between living your life and letting the world run right over you.

I viewed 2373's admission of being bisexual as indicating that he wasn't providing a heterosexual pov--that he or she does understand what it feels like to deal with this issue having had homosexual relationships. If he or she was gay, they would have said that instead.

Yeah, I didn't get that at all, especially since he (or she) keeps using the word "attack." What I got was him (or her) saying that he hated to break to us that some people just aren't accepting, and that we should just accept the status quo. "That's just how it is, guys. Live your life, but don't expect people to like it." If he's going to be that defeatist about things, I'm just curious to know how he actually does handle being public about his same sex relationships. If he thinks he's being attacked on this thread, I'm curious to know what it's like when his bisexuality is met with the homobigotry and homophobia our homosexuality is met with. He said he's bisexual, but then said it never even occurred to him to think someone could be attacked for showing affection? Seriously? And yet he thinks my calling that his attention is an "attack."

I just wonder what the mindset is of someone who can read this thread and just dismiss everyone with a "well, that's just how people are" and "you can't force people to share your views." I don't understand how wanting to hold my boyfriend's hand in public without fear of harassment or abuse is forcing someone else to share my views.

Well, I so agree with you there. And I don't agree with his or her argument that these people who hate gay pda aren't ignorant. Of course, they are.

OR, then should we agree that it's "ok" or "fine" that there are people who react the same way when an interracial couple kisses or holds hands?

It wasn't ABC News but this same idea was featured on the Tyra Banks Show today. The show entitled "What Would You Do" gaged the reactions of passersby in various situations.
Pretty interesting actually.

You can't live life as a gay or bisexual person without it being political any more than I can be Israeli without it being political. You may be non-partisan, but anyone who thinks they're living an apolitical life is sticking their head in the sand.

I can't believe one woman called 911!!!!

The fat asses and guts of lard on most of the passers-by are much more offensive to public decency than any kissing could ever be.
