Yeah...Kelly might put on a few extra pounds now and then but I would hardly call her homely.
Carrie Underwood IS gorgeous. I don't think Kelly is AS gorgeous, but she's hardly homely.

Craww - am I reading correctly that your argument is based on the idea that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are unattractive?
That's based on popular perception, not on my own opinions. Kelly Clarkson is widely thought of as homely-for-a-popstar, I'm sorry. Me using the word "ugly" is not my opinion, so much as what I've witnessed. I love Kelly, and I think she's adorable. But I don't think she's conventionally attractive in the way most popstars are.
Carrie is a little bit different of a story, but she's also in a different niche. (I didn't mention her in the context of her looks, so much as her place in pop culture and whether she doesn't deserve it because she came from Idol. Then again, she was a little less polished and a little less thin when she was on Idol, but I'm not at all arguing that she's less than pretty.)
There's a ton of examples for American Idol of those with less success. Jordin Sparks won, and while I think she's beautiful (a total pill, but beautiful) she's also heavier than most popstars signed without benefit of American Idol.
American Idol contestants 9 times out of 10 are more normal looking than most label made pop stars, I'm sorry. I'm not insulting these people by saying it. It's just a fact.
Besides, the bulk of my argument is really just that it's pointless to judge American Idol pop stars more harshly than you judge label made pop stars, because both groups will be putting out the same material with the same songwriters and producers.

I don't think anybody is suggesting that Kelly Clarkson is unattractive. In fact, I think she's quite beautiful and looks great at her weight. But we're talking pop stars from the perspective of major record labels. She certainly doesn't fit the convention that Britney, Christina, Jessica, Ashley, Miley, etc do.
Namo...do you really think any major record label would have signed an openly flamboyant gay male pop star onto their label as a complete unknown, no matter HOW good he was?
I was not an Adam Lambert fan before the AMA's, or even during American Idol and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
He bores me. I don't think he is without talent. His vocals are incredible but I don't think there is anything behind it. I don't see or even hear passion or the love of music when he sings. All I see is a glory whore and it's a turn-off for me.
Here is a clip of his Adam's performance on CBS this morning:

I just watched his interview on The Morning Show. I thought for someone fairly new to being in the spotlight he handled the interview like a pro.
And why the hell did The Morning Show feel the need to blur out the gay kiss? Aren't they just proving his point?
I remember the day after the Brit/Madonna lip lock all the morning shows were showing it in all of it's glory.

I thought he did really well on the Early Show, and I'm sure this is basically the exact same performance he would have given on GMA.
Even the homophobic NY Post thought ABC's reaction was unwarrented:
"After watching Adam Lambert on CBS' "Early Show" this morning, I think we can all agree ABC overreacted by booting him from "Good Morning America." Before I even get to the performance, I have to say that the networks assumption Adam would deliver, at 8:45 a.m., the same type of show that he did at 11 p.m. is ludicrous and total scapegoating."

Considering CBS actually reran the Madonna/Britney kiss today without a blur, I don't see how anyone can argue this isn't about homophobia.
Agreed, Phyllis. I can't believe they blurred it out. I mean, I can, but you know. Am in transit and on my phone, but will watch the video when I get where I'm going. Looking forward to seeing it.

The Early Show appearance and performances were beautiful <33 He sounded awesome, looked great, and handled the interview perfectly!
That said, SERIOUSLY, what the eff with even CBS blurring Adam's kiss but not censoring Britney and Madonna!? Double standards are so frustrating.
I haven't heard the whole album yet, but I'm digging Fever and Whattya Want from Me.

I think it's less about the network's homophobia than it is about assuming that the average middle American who is watching GMA, The Early Show and The View is homophobic. God forbid someone be offended. Not showing it is one thing but blurring it is something else entirely. I still think that overall the performance was too much and some of the discussion is warranted, but the media reaction is ridiculous. ALL kisses need to be blurred now. Welcome to American censorship.
The Morning Show clip pulled me right back in. He handled himself very well. He wasn't apologetic, but explained his reasoning. He said the one thing he would change is that he would sing better. lol
I watched the videos from this morning. I thought he did really well, and the performances were quite good. As far as the interview, I think he's right. And good on him for handling this so well. I think he's adorable.
I also just saw CBS' statement about blurring Adam's kiss while showing the Madonna/Britney clip, and I think they are so full of sh*t. It's making me really angry.
I think for me, the bottom line is summed up by a (really annoying) conversation I had earlier with my mother:
I was talking to her about it, and I said that the point of this, for me, is that if Adam were a woman, this would not be an issue -- and further, the fact that CBS blurred his kissing a man but showed Britney and Madonna makes quite clear that this is an issue of gender and sexuality. My mother argued that, no, it had nothing to with either, but rather, Adam is simply "an idiot." An idiot, I guess, for doing what he did on t.v. and being all "risque," but, mind you, my mother hadn't even seen the AMA performance. So really, he's an "idiot" for being flamboyant and kind of odd and wearing makeup and doing so in public, thus being such a "showman" as she puts it. Though of course that isn't what she means.
Anyway, later in the day, I was watching the CBS interview clip with my brother, and we were talking about it; she overheard me say that I think Adam is right, and she scolded me and called me an "ultra liberal." She was clearly trying to insult me, but I have to wonder: she was trying to insult me because I think it's wrong that people are lashing out about a male/male kiss, but not about someone smashing whiskey bottles, hetero crotch-grabbing, or making light of rape? And that's the bottom line. I feel like it's becoming clearer and clearer that this is not about being risque; it's that people think being male-on-male makes it risque or more inappropriate. And that's the part that, in addition to just being utter crap, is, to be honest, sort of heartbreaking. It's making me sad to see this happen.
i had a conversation about this at work with some people and was accused of being "a typical westchester liberal" when i pointed out that britney and madonna and countless other female pop tarts had been doing this an worse for years and that people were only up in arms because it was a guy kissing a guy. i lol'd, literally.
me. a typical westchester liberal.
i was told later that after i left the room one of the guys said, "i always thought he was a faggot and this just proves it."
i made a point of stopping by his office to let him know that i'd taken a poll of all of the company's gay workers - of whom there are several, deeply in the closet of course - and he'd been voted most likely to be caught in a truck stop rest room sting.
this is just ridiculous. two men kissing freaks people out this much? christ...

I'm with papa & Emcee. This is complete bullsh*t.
Adam has nothing to be defending because he did nothing wrong.
SNL - I like what you said about the "earning" of the right to do that. Sherri shepard tried that line on the View, claiming that with Madonna, we have learned to expect it. Hello! Madonna STARTED OUT that way! Please. There's no earning necessary.
also - I agree with everyone who thinks Kelly and Carrie are attractive.
oh yeah, and i'd nail kelly in a freakin' heartbeat.

I'm thankful for papa.
I read the transcript of Early Show interview earlier and I think for someone so new to the scene, I think he's handling the situation very well, and responding in a very intelligent and factual way. Too often, people who have good points botch it and make it worse for themselves and whatever their "cause" is. But in this case, I'd like to see the Parents Television Council try to argue with his suggestion that parents should Tivo shows like this and preview it before showing it to their children.

^yup, he's really handled this all very well :) He's owning the fact that it WASN'T the greatest performance, while still standing by his conviction that he shouldn't be getting eaten alive for doing things that female artists do all the time.
another excellent, very interesting interview:

(for some reason the first part is the 3rd video down haha)
I just finished watching that one and the MTV one. I'm more and more impressed by him with each video.
wait'll you see his sex tape, em.
Off topic, but has anyone noticed how much Adam Lambert looks like a young Rex Reed?
