From the AFI website:
AFI's 100 Years . . . 100 Cheers: America's Most Inspiring Movies will count down America's 100 most inspiring films, as chosen by experts of the motion picture community.
"Over the years, the movies have given us something to cheer about," stated Jean Picker Firstenberg, AFI's Director and CEO. "The past few years have not been easy in America--from September 11th to the devastation of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. AFI's 100 Years...100 Cheers will celebrate the films that inspire us, encourage us to make a difference and send us from the theatre with a greater sense of possibility and hope for the future."

I have it on now. They just showed one of my favorite films........PRIDE OF THE YANKEES with Gary Cooper.
It's on CBS.... for those who want to watch.
Going to watch. Will be back to discuss later.
I'm watching.
I've said before and I'll say it again - I love Jane Fonda!
Oh - GWTW!
I don't think there is an actor alive who is as hot as Marlon Brando was in Streetcar and On the Waterfront. DAMN!
Whoopie - "Who doesn't love that?"
I LOVE THAT!
I still get chills.
Judy is the greatest of them all!
I'm enjoying it. It's nice to be reminded of these films.
I haven't seen NPH is so long.
I have watched the entire thing. My only disappointments were that Rudy and Forrest Gump weren't closer to number one.
But it is great to see all of these....I want to go watch them all!
I love Breaking Away, but I am surprised it's on the list.
Edit: and so high on the list.
I started watching it in the 50s somewhere, so I just looked online to see what I'd missed. I can't believe My Left Foot isn't on the list...nice to see Harold and Maude in there. God, I love that movie!
I've just made a list of movies I haven't seen in ages and will rent the next time I'm trying to decide what to watch...
I KNEW this would be number 1! So glad about number 2 too!
What a fantastic top 3. I got choked up watching some of those clips.
EDIT: I'm actually crying right now!

"Every human being on the planet earth matters."
What a wonderful way to conclude that special...
I have an embarrassing confession. I have never seen It's A Wonderful Life. I really should do something about that.
Shameless, it's one of my favorite movies EVER.
I watch it year-round, even though it's traditionally shown at Christmas. I simply adore the message...
My family teases me about it. But, I don't care. I love it!
