BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD
THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY
INTO THE WILD
JUNO
KNOCKED UP
MICHAEL CLAYTON
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
RATATOUILLE
THE SAVAGES
THERE WILL BE BLOOD
For reference, here are their pics last year:
BABEL
BORAT
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
DREAMGIRLS
HALF NELSON
HAPPY FEET
INSIDE MAN
LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE
UNITED 93
I've never heard of five of those movies.
Good list. Surprised SWEENEY didn't make it.
Interesting how The Departed didn't even make their Top 10 last year.
...or Hairspray.
Yeah, that's an odd SWEENEY snub. KNOCKED UP better than SWEENEY, or even ENCHANTED for that matter, or HAIRSPRAY? I think not.
Sorry. But I liked 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN more than KNOCKED UP.
I wish they included ENCHANTED, SWEENEY, WAITRESS, & KITE RUNNER.

The only film off that list I've seen so far is "Knocked Up." If that's the best this year can offer I weep for this country.
I just think a lot of good movies came out this year. I still think the oscar race is wide open.
And I have a feeling The Academy will honor many of the movies the Hollywood Foreign Press overlooked.
I'm so happy that Into the Wild made the list... that by far was my favorite film this year and I was so disappointed that it wasn't nominated for a golden globe...
Oh my Lord. I just remembered WAITRESS. I had completely forgotten about that wonderful film. Kerri Russel got snubbed. Shoot.
THE KITE RUNNER would not have been eligible, as this is the AMERICAN film Insitute. I would imagine that it didn't meet the criteria, but I could be wrong.
As much as I enjoyed ENCHANTED, it doesn't strike me as one of the best 10 of the year. I wouldn't necessarily put KNOCKED UP there either, but there's no denying that it is a finely, finely, finely constructed film. A superbly written comedy.
Decent list. The only major omission I see is Sweeney.
On a side note, I'm bummed that everyone has forgotten about
Zodiac
Breach
Rescue Dawn
3 very worthy films IMO.
I do think ENCHANTED is one of the best of the year, especially over KNOCKED UP.
Have you guys actually seen SWEENEY, though?
And as much as I love LA VIE EN ROSE, it's not eligible.
I do agree that ZODIAC should have been remembered.

I've seen Sweeney, and I wish I could say it should replace Knocked Up, but I haven't actually seen Knocked Up. Is it wrong that I don't want to see a movie that shows a woman crowning?
Haha, no, that certainly does sound like a turnoff - but do yourself a favor and watch it. It's a fantastic comedy.
Am I the only one that thought Juno wasn't really that special?
Nope. I thought Juno was one of those movies that was just SO aware of its own cleverness. It was off-putting because of that, and in turn the film kept me at a distance. The filmmakers were trying WAY too hard to be "hip". It was funny, but I don't think I would put it anywhere near the top ten of the year.
ZODIAC is being creamed. God forbid you release a non-box-office-smash so early in the year! Would have liked to see BLACK BOOK on the list. Supposedly THERE WILL BE BLOOD is a small masterpiece.
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. One of last years best films? Really?

INTO THE WILD is a really well-made film about an extremely stupid man.
"THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. One of last years best films? Really?"
I know! Over STEP UP ... puh-lease!
A cinematic feast.
"Zodiac" isn't anything more than a Michael Mann TV movie. It didn't deserve the praise it got THEN, much less now.
Hahahaha, b12b, that's a very accurate description.
Borstal: BLACK BOOK was not eligible.
Cruel: I don't think Chris McCandless is a stupid guy at all. If you're basing that on the film, do yourself a favor and read the book.
