I think it will backfire. They love Jasmine, and I think she is by far the worst one up there. I can't believe they put her through.
Also, I don't understand Scott. I know he's blind and all, but I honestly think he's not that good. Damn sympathy voting...

I am not entirely sure about this, but if I'm right, they will be taking the voting concept from Randy Jackon's show America's Best Dance Crew. People will vote on who's the best, and the the two who have the lowest votes will be kicked off by the judges.
It would be interesting if they have a "You Just Got Served: American Idol Edition." The judges will have the bottom singers sing one more time for their spot on next weeks show.

re: AMERICAN IDOL#878
Posted: 3/11/09 at 8:38amI'm wondering if maybe it'll be like So You Think You Can Dance, where we get a bottom three and the judges choose who goes.

brd, you didn't like Allison?
re: AMERICAN IDOL#880
Posted: 3/11/09 at 9:40amAccording to Dial Idol, Allison is in danger of being in the bottom two tonight.

Am I getting the name wrong? Isn't Allison the readheaded 16 yr old who can rock the pants off the whole group of them and whom the judges unanimously rave about?

ljay types the truth...I cant believe it!
They also have Anoop safe!
Ugh.
Allison was terrific last night. I appreciated her more as well, Jane, but mostly because Adam (also terrific) has had more time to polish his performing...that girl is 16 and her experience is singing in a supermarket!
How 1980s Tiffany!
Megan and her boobs made me want to puke. She's my least favorite.
So many single mothers in the top 36 this year.

re: AMERICAN IDOL#883
Posted: 3/11/09 at 10:26amDoodle, another reason I prefer Allison is that I believe that she's actually singing, and on pitch, while a lot of Adam's performance sounds like yelling and screaming out of pitch to me. I don't care for that style of "singing."

I know I am going to be alone here but I just don't like Allison. I just hear vocal damage when she sings. All I have heard from her so far is yelling. I haven't heard any artistry or control.

Posted: 3/11/09 at 10:31amTom, I believe it's called belting. Did you hear Adam's performance? That isn't yelling?
re: AMERICAN IDOL#886

Neither are yelling. Allison has a gravel to her voice when she speaks, so it would be a color of her singing voice as well, like it or not...I like it.
Adam has an incredibly high range. I'm not sure that boy finished puberty! He's able to belt into the stratosphere, which I dont always like, but he's not yelling any more than Gokey or Rounds...or anyone else.
What set them apart for me last night was their performing abilities.

Jane2, I had not read your posts/back and forth with doodle before I posted my comment. I wasn't trying to get involved in your exchange.
My critism of Allison has nothing to do with Adam. I don't necessarily enjoy everything about his voice either. If you read my previous post I have stated that he needs to calm down and that we don't need hear every note in his tessitura everytime he sings. Adam is without a doubt the most seasoned performer out of the 13 but not necessarily my favorite.
I don't care for Allison's vocal quality. (period)
I wasn't looking for an argument. Just stating my opinion.

Tom, all I can say is I'm sorry you thought that my comments and questions to you had anything to do with doodle. It wasn't about you.
I asked you if you thought Adam was yelling. If that's an argument, then never mind.

Jane, it's difficult to interpret tone and intent on here. You have to admit there are some argumentative folks here.
I know that your exchange with doodle wasn't about me. I wasn't insinuating that. I was just trying to be clear that my posts weren't in response to what the two of you were talking about. It just happened to be on the same topic.
To answer your question about whether I think Adam is yelling...yes, sometimes I do. I would go so far as to say screaming at times.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#891
Posted: 3/11/09 at 11:35amI could see Jasmine going first. She's just totally forgettable. Megan is a one-trick pony. We've seen everything she can do. She's good at her thing, which will probably keep her around a couple of weeks, but I think the judges and the audience are going to get bored and she'll be gone before too long. Anoop was embarrassing, but he's the cute nerd made good. He'll stick around for a while unless the judges can do something about it. I'm on the fence about Jorge. He's not the worst, but I'm afraid like Matt and Jasmine, he's just not memorable enough. Unless they are the last performance, I think they are all forgotten by the end of the broadcast.

Thanks Tom, that's all I wanted to know.
Matt, how about Lil? I tuned in too late to see her last night.
Jorge-I'm afraid he may be eliminated soon.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#893
Posted: 3/11/09 at 11:38amMy response to the criticisms of Adam and Allison were me as a singer, not a fan. I wasnt criticizing anyone for not liking either singer, just that both are indeed singing, not yelling/screaming.

re: AMERICAN IDOL#894
Posted: 3/11/09 at 11:41amdoodle-serious question-how does one determine if it's singing or yelling and screaming? For me, yelling denotes the absence of melody. I thought Allison was just doing a good job of belting and I could hear proper notes, whereas I thought Adam had abandoned melody and pitch in his "yelling."
re: AMERICAN IDOL#895

Adam is clearly using vocal technique, not "screaming" or "yelling" in a way that would damage his voice. He is producing those sounds in a healthy way, though they may not sound good to you, Jane :) Allison has a really good voice as well but I definitely think she is pushing and shouting in a not-so-healthy way at times. Re-watching her performance of "Alone" this was very apparent to me. Note her strained faces as opposed to Adam's ease.
In response to your question, Jane, I think the "yelling" you're talking about are vocal affectations such as a "rock yell," but I think they're all part of the song. When most people around here say "yelling" or "screaming" I think they mean "using one's voice in an unhealthy way."

Posted: 3/11/09 at 11:43amAnoop's song choice was just wrong. Not one to pick! He might be saved for a week or two.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#897
Posted: 3/11/09 at 11:48amI will say that I think Adam is exceptionally gifted and has the ability to sound beautiful. We just haven't heard it in his previous two performances which were all flash. I do understand the first performance was to secure his spot in the top 12/13 and then last nights was the first performance on the big stage. It will be interesting to see if "reins it in" at all in the next few weeks.

Shbrt explained it faster than me, Jane...Adam's technique is great, whether you like his sound or not.
I did think that the arrangement of Alone was out of Allison's range (which is not very big). She was reaching for the top notes rather than singing them comfortably.
Last night she was fine. The song sat comfortably in her range.

Thanks, shbrt. Very interesting. Well, I'm not educated in vocal techniques, I admit. I'm just judging on the way things sound to me as a lay person, and what I like hearing.
I guess I'm 180 degrees from the technical explanation-I love the way Allison sounds and hate the way Adam does.
