The government shouldn't tell women what to do with their vaginas.

'Keep your rosaries off my ovaries!'
I add: 'Keep the Pope off my Dope!'
Not good, I know.
I say if you don't agree with abortion, don't have one. I volunteer at a clinic.
That's great! How do you volunteer JerseyGirl?

In a situation like this, there honestly can't be one authoritarian view. Nothing can really be viewed in black and white because there are so many variables. For example, what if the mother's life was in danger? Suppose the father had hidden some serious illness that could affect the health of the child? What about instances of rape?
I'm pro-life, but I realize that there are lots of variables and can't condemn a woman who gets an abortion if it's for a serious reason.
My cousin is vehemently pro-life and when she found out that I had moderate views on the subject she threw a hissy fit, especially when I gave her the hypothetical example of her daughter getting pregnant after being raped by a derelict. I knew my cousin would be the first one at the abortion clinic and told her so. She flew off the handle and started saying things like, "But Catholics are all against abortion!" This was funny because this conversation was over dinner on Palm Sunday and she hadn't bothered to go to mass that day.
Several months later her daughter did get pregnant and sure enough the pregnancy was terminated at a clinic.
I am not a woman, hence I have no right to tell one what to do with her body. End of subject for me. Pro-Choice all the way

Dman it I never realised you were a guy! Even after Pming you for a while! I'm so bloody slow!
it all depends on the situation
I would know
Would you want to be seventeen and have a baby when you can get into any college you want and are one of the top students in your theater class that you love?
I'm just glad that i didn't have to make that horrible decision
vmlinnie....that's funny. I guess you never look at fan photos.....

Oh Me Oh My, I invisaged you as a crazy cat lady...
You look a bit like Billy Joel, but better looking (he has a crazy eyelid thing...).
hmm, but I don't have an eyelid thing.....although I've been called crazy before, and do like cats
Dolly, I am guessing that the real situation wasn't because of rape?
I am not pretending like it isn't a big deal. I don't think the situation should be taken lightly and abortion should not be used as a form of casual birth control. There are the horrible situations that have been mentioned already, but there are also other situations that might force a woman to look into it. Accidents happen and birth control fails. If a woman is not in a financial situation to raise a child, is it really better that another baby be born into poverty? And yes, you can argue adoption, but if she and the father of the child are not caucasion, adoption is more difficult. There is also the bond that a woman forms with the fetus after carrying it. Even when adoption is the best for that situation, sometimes they just can't do it. If a woman is a drug addict, is it really better that another child be born, addicted to God knows what and either go into the system or be raised by a drug addicted mother? And what about a woman that thought she had the support of the man only to find out he isn't around? A teenager makes a mistake. She finds herself pregnant in highschool. Should she be forced to carry to term and perhaps give the child up for adoption and have that follow her for the rest of her life? There are situations that NO ONE has the right to judge until they find themselves in that exact situation, which they can't really ever be. Whether or not you could have one yourself shouldn't matter. I don't feel like anyone else has the right to tell women as a whole what they can or can't do with their bodies. And from a numbers issue, call me cold if you want, but the world is overpopulated. We are killing this planet at an alarming rate. Imagine the population of the world if there were no abortions.
I volunteer at a small clinic because I promised myself when I was in Tennessee that if I was ever within a decent driving distance from a provider, I would volunteer if I could. The closest clinic in TN was over an hour away. I have been a walker on a few occasions, walking patients into the building. Usually I assist with patient comfort in recovery. I let the person that is with the patient know what is going on and get anything the patient needs. Sometimes I just sit with them. I have held a lot of hands over the last few months and it's been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. My mother hates it and is convinced that someone is going to shoot me.

I've actually done the same thing Jersey. I interned with Planned Parenthood for 2 years when I was in college.

I'm afraid that if abortions were outlawed, desperate young women may go so far as to attempt to terminate the pregnancy themselves. Then you lose two lives.
Anyone who hasn't heard Sally's Pigeons by Cyndi Lauper should. And if not, just read the lyrics.
It seems, if someone want to terminate a pregnancy, people will do anything it takes, legal, illegal, safe, or life-endangering.
Outlawing abortions won't do anything but encourage the sale of more coat hangers.
Regardless of anyone's opinion on the matter, it'll happen. I happen to be Pro Choice, but really it's about making sure that everyone is as safe as possible. Clean facilities. And also, it's ridiculous to othink that the govt could ever moniter who could and couldn't get an abotrion effectively. They dont have the time or resources. I say, my body, my choice.
Did anyone go to the big march a few years ago in DC?
Every child that is born has the right to be wanted and loved. I feel it's better to terminated a pregnancy than to bring an unwanted and unloved child into being.
But I also believe that the procedure should be carried out during the first trimester, except when there are extenuating circumstances.
I absolutely agree, iflit.

I don't think men get an opinion on the matter until they can get pregnant.
And personally, after reading these boards for a few years I've gone from solidly pro-choice to resolutely pro-abortion. Until the 17th year.
Jersey and Coleen, you're my new 2 heros! That's awesome, what a great cause. I want to volunteer, but I can't make up my mind...what I wanna do.
Hmm. My History class had a hissy-fit on this when it was brought up. Personally, I am on the fence. It's terrible, I know, but I lean towards Pro-Life. This is because i believe murder is wrong. Killing is wrong. Yes, I disagree with wars as well. Killing is killing, and I don't care what, no matter of it's age, is killed... it's wrong.
No offense to you all, just my two cents. I <3 civilness.
I would like to know how many unwanted babies most pro-lifers have living with them.
Is that really the point though? I have friends who were concieved my their parents free will and are unwanted. Should *they* have killed them when they decided they didn't want kids?
I sound argumentative, sorry. I get way into debates.
