I can just see some old lady with her cats watching and hearing the song Memory.... "Oh I recognize that song. I made out to that song with your grandfather..." and picking up the phone and voting for Jason. Like that "Proud to be American" song, it didn't matter how the performance went, it's all about song choice.
I didn't think Carly would win Idol but she deserved to be there longer than Jason.
Actually, Somms, I did vote for Carly. I voted for every one except Jason and Brooke.
Did anyone else notice ALW's funny faces? His smiles had us crackin' up!
Boo!!!! I am so bugged she went home!!!! Thought it should have been Jason or Brooke=-(
Why isn't Jason gone???
Carly, we hardly knew you. See ya on tour!
AI just gets more and more frustrating. I honestly like Brooke and Cook or I wouldn't be watching any more this season. Just like when Daughtry left his year - I pretty much stopped caring after that.
The amazing thing to me is that they haven't replaced Paula and Randy. Both are completely hypocritical - praising one contestant while tearing another down for the exact same thing. Neither seem to have a vocabulary of more than maybe 100 words. The worst offense, though, is the BOOING when Simon talks. He has as much right to his opinion (if not more) than those two morons, and he can't even get out his words half the time because of them. That should be stopped right after they put a kibosh on those damn waving hands in the front row. (How absurd did that look to You Must Love Me???)

You are soooo incredibly spot on with everything! BRILLIANT! Paula is never sober enough to make any kind of sense and Randy speaks like a 13 year old. Did everyone else catch ALW's little comment when discussing Brooke's start/stop/start over performance? He mentioned how the panel also sometimes doesn't complete their thought or their sentence and Simon laughed and pointed to Paula? She pretty much kept clapping like a moron.

jason, I complained about the hand waving a few pages back, too. I HATE that.
Re: Paula Randy and Simon.
This is just a show-entertainment. I think the judges are there purposely with their faults so that we will talk about them. It's all for fun.
This is the most successful tv show on the air, and the producers know what they're doing.
I'm glad Paula's drunk or high all the time, and Randy is so ...so...silly. And I love what Simon says. The boos are there as part of the whole joke.

Who's to blame? The show or the voting public?
The millions of viewers across this country who watch the show religiously! Don't mess with something that works!
As far as I'm concerned, that show is dead to me. I've lost faith in America knowing talent. The fact that the two best performances were the bottom two is ridiculous. The rest of the performances were, and I'm sorry to those who liked them, sh*t. Jason should have been gone after one of the most pitiful performances ever done on stage. His whispered whining couldn't pull off the song. Archuleta can't remember lyrics to any of the songs he sings. Brooke is working off of pity for her "being human." (Come on, is this how we would react to big-time performers who flub up and demand to stop and start over?) David Cook should win the competition overall, but his performance was pitiful too. Pick a song you can do, not the only one you've heard of.
Yea, I'll admit it, I've supported Carly more than others, but I was disgusted before her name was even read. This competition is over in a few weeks. By now they should be in the swing of things and should be ready to take on any challenge. It's why they're [supposedly] the best of this season. Get it right, America.
Everyone needs to calm down. It's a television show. It's entertainment.
Is anyone taking this whole process seriously? Come on, it's just for fun. You can't take it seriously because 1. The contestants aren't all amateurs, as in no professional experience. 2. There's a huge majority of little tweens who do most of the voting for the ones they think are cute. And that doesn't even matter, because I do not believe the voting is accurately reported on the show anyway. They eliminate who they want to and 3. The winner, I believe is not the person who got the votes. The winner is who they decide should be the winner.
This is how I see it, but I'm cynical, so don't let me spoil anyone's fun. I still watch because I enjoy the show anyway!
Will David Archuleta be known as the singer who killed American Idol?
Jane, thats a valid opinion, but sites liek Dialidol.com have a good track record in predicting the eliminated person (or at least the bottom 2 or 3). According to Dialidol this week, Carly had the fewest votes, and look, she was eliminated.
Thats true about Carly unfortunetly. Even though they aren't even close to being right most of the time, the week Michael Johns got voted off he was no where near the bottom 3 on that site. He was closer to the top that week. I truly believe that the producers decide who they want to leave when they want them too.
In my opinion, a David Cook/Carly Smithson would have been an amazing finale or a Cook/ Michael Johns finale would have been good. The rest of them are not even in Davids league.
At least Archuleta's Lifetime movie should be even better than Fantasia's. I can see the pitch now: "It's 'Gypsy' meets 'Mommie Dearest!' with the Osmonds!"
But liver, just because that website predicted Carly would leave doesn't mean that it wasn't the producers' choice.
Anyway, as I said, I'm a cynic about things we have no proof of.
Someone mentioned this a few pages back, but I too think there's some merit to the argument/position that Carly was eliminated because of her song choice. Given how subversive and crazy the religious right are, a song about JC may not have been their cup of tea irrespective of how well anyone performs that song.
And for Brooke to remain -- after singing YOU MUST LOVE ME in a KEY THAT WAS LOWER THAN THE VERSION SUNG BY MADONNA -- is mindblowing. Unfreakingbelievable.
No, the religious right is distracted right now by ads for "Gossip Girl" that they say contain "offensive profanity." Apparently "OMFG" is now "offensive profanity.
They already blew their AI wad this year when they didn't say Jesus in one of the hundreds of Jesus-centric songs performed this year. They probably aren't smart enough to know what this song was actually saying. Like Pavlov's dogs, they just drool and get happy when they hear the word Jesus.
Dear God, it is freaking NEIL DIAMOND week! Get ready for the worst show of the season.
I say Jason and Brook do the You Don't Bring Me Flowers duet so we can kill two birds with one stone.
Do they sing TWO songs tonight?
Jane2: Unfortunately, Carly isn't an amateur. She released a record in '01, called Ultimate High.
"I'm Gonna Blow Your Mind" was the only single.
Amazon
Um, when did I say she was an amateur?
Oops! I read your 4/24 wrong. I thought you said they were all amateurs.
I aplogize.
You're forgiven!
